NDMP three-way backup fails with 84 error on NetBackup 7.1

Hi

I'm experiencing a strange behaviour, in a backup job

using NetBackup 7.1 and two Netapp filers with Data Ontap 7.3.4 .

When the netbackup job is writing the final TIR data , there is a mismatch in block count check

and the job fails with the error:

"

Error bptm (pid=8086) FREEZING media id IS0206, too many data blocks written, check tape/driver block size configuration

Info bptm (pid=8086) EXITING with status 84 <----------"

this happens only in 3-way NDMP backups  between 7.3.4 Data Ontap Netapp filers driven by NetBackup Enterprise Server 7.1 release.

Have you ever seen something similar?

Thanks

Regards

Antonello

Hi

I got a patch from Symantec, Etrack/bug ID  2387389 ,

and once applied , the problem was solved 🙂

Ask Symantec for EEB for your platform .

Hi Antonello,

we have the same problem..still unsolved. Had a case open at Symantec but after 1 month of sending logfile after logfile without any clue about the source of the problem I closed it. I am glad its not only me experiencing this...

Hope to get some help here.

Hi Michael

No way to solve the problem both by Netapp and Symantec side,

i simply reconfigured backup policies to prevent that combination,

there's no way to make it working at the moment;

unfortunately, i don't think there will be a fix for this ..

Update: After installing NBU 7.1.0.2 the error re-occurs. According to Symantec Support there's an EEB for 7.1.0.3 (?!?) but not for .2...Has anyone more info?

Thanks

Michael

Hi Michael

Have you tried to apply same patch to 7.1.0.2 ?

Anyway , i think it's better to contact Symantec Support to get a response.
