SC3.3.0 and crash consistent snapshots.

Hi guys,

I have been running my SC3.3.0 for back of Oracle ASM for a year now but recently committing consistency group snapshots are failing.

Below is the error I get on the log. Any idea why crash consistency commit is failing?

ZAPI: Operation failed: Error during snapshot operation

ERROR: NetApp Consistency Group Commit for controller failed! Exiting

Sorry, it was a problem of fractional reserve configuration.

Hi There,

This happens because the consistency group process has a timeout NTAP_CONSISTENCY_GROUP_TIMEOUT. It can be urgent=2 secs, medium=7 secs, or relaxed=20 secs.

To prevent this error adjust timeout to relaxed and also use timestamp snapshots so set SNAP_TIMESTAMP_ONLY=Y, there is rename process w/_recent which can add time.

If this doesn't help then you need to troubleshoot why the consistency group snapshot process is taking so long, there could be an ontap issue.

Please email debug logs from your backup job and the Snapcreator config file to sivar at netapp.com

If not, please copy / paste the error here.

As Keith has suggested above, try the relaxed setting which is 20 seconds.

vol1 and vol2 - can you create snapshots separately?

1) "snap create vol1 testsnap"

2) "snap create vol2 testsnap"

you can delete the test snapshots once you can verify the snapshot creation.

I am just trying to see if there is anything else causing the snapshots to fail.

If individual snapshot creation works fine, then I will look into other possible situations.

Please try and let me know.
