Snap Manager for Exchange 2007 using VMFS volumes

Hi

We're just starting to make use of the Snap Manager (6.0) software for Exchange. (Exch 2007 stnd on server 2003 x64 stnd)

I believe I'm right in thinking that Snap Drive (installed 6.3.1R1) now works with VMFS volumes for VMWare, vSphere 5, using iSCSI and VSC 2.1.1 (hopefully I'm right that VSC has replaced SMVI).

I have got Snap drive to recognise the drives, and when I run SMExch I see my server listed, and everything looks good, however, each time I run the backup, whether backing up a single storage group, or the entire server.

The error we get is "VSS_E_VOLUME_NOT_SUPPORTED_BY_PROVIDER".

As I look through the backup log I see the following lines listed

Error in calling VSS API: Error code = 0x8004230e

Error description: VSS_E_VOLUME_NOT_SUPPORTED_BY_PROVIDER

Has anyone got any experience of running Snap Manager using VMFS volumes?

Thank you for you help

Richard

P.S. I'm about to setup a SQL server using SM as well, so hope VMFS volumes are supported.

Hi and welcome to the Communities!

SnapDrive works with VMDK files, however:

- there is no support in SnapManager for Exchange for VMDK files

- SnapManager for SQL 5.1 does support VMDK files over NFS

Radek
