Hi, I have a problem with volume backup using networker.
Since long time ago, the volume(3) backup process takes 10 days to complete.
However, other volume backup such as volume(1)and(2) has better backup speed like 25MB/s.
This volume(3) has 2.73TB and average backup speed is 2000 to 5000 kb/s.
Here is the spec for our enviroment.

Backup target
NetApp Release 7.2.4P9
Volume 1 size 400 GB 10hours or less
Volume 2 size 200 GB 10hours or less
Volume 3 size 2.73 TB  takes 10days

Networker 7.6
OS:Windows 2003

Backup Storeage
Data Domain OS 4.9.2.6

I am new to these system but I need to be trouble-shoot immediately.

I've asked vendor support and thery are useless.

Please give me some advice, or if you more need information just let me know.

Hi Sohei,

You have not mentioned whether you are taking NDMP local backup or remote backup. Kindly mention the same.

Also check the utilization of NetApp storage using sysstat command. Asking this to check as NDMP is always backend process in all NAS devices, so if utilization of your device is higher then NDMP will get low priority.

Thank you for your quick response, I preciate your help
I've answered your qustion as follow,

You have not mentioned whether you are taking NDMP local backup or remote backup. Kindly mention the same.
-you mean the netwoker server is in same segment as Data Doman? Yes there are in same location.

Also check the utilization of NetApp storage using sysstat command.
Asking this to check as NDMP is always backend process in all NAS devices,
so if utilization of your device is higher then NDMP will get low priority.

-I have input the following command that I found in manual PDF and utilication is not the issue for this matter
We backup this volume during the night time only but sometimes during the day too, but it doesn't change much speed when it runs day or night.

sysstat -u -c 10 -s 2

Seems you are using DD as target for backup but it is not very clear whether you are using VTL feature of DD or you are backing up NetApp over LAN. Can you confirm the connectivity??

If you are backing up NetApp over LAN, that means NetApp will send data to backup server and server will write that data into DD appliance. In this case you will need to check your network settings, configuration, VLAN, and utilization etc.

We are not using VTL, just backing up by LAN.

Could you tell me the where I should check that you mentioned from last reply? what is the best configuration for network setting etc? what kind of configuration need to be input on DD or Netapp side to improve our system?

Thank you

Also Do you know any books that I can read to study regarding this matter? I try finding these related books but I cannot find any in Japan.
