Hi,

Can someone please share the complete procedure on how to setup and authenticate a C-Mode cluster with NetBackup 6.5 Master/Media server.

We have a production setup ready and need to configure the backup.

Hi Vikash,

You can refer to this KB for the steps. https://kb.netapp.com/library/CUSTOMER/solutions/kb50388.pdf

While the KB refers to ONTAP GX, the steps are relevant for ONTAP 8.0 and 8.1 Cluster-Mode. Also, refer to the Data Protection documentation of the version of Cluster-Mode at your site.

Mrinal.

Hi Mrinal,

I have a question on how to put volume list in the backup.

The \vserver\volume name format is not working,

Hi Vikash,

The volume name should be added as /vol/volumename/qtreename or /vol/volumename

Before specifiying this, you should add the controller to the list in NDMP for Netbackup ( even if this volume is part of Vfiler still the controller has to be added)

Hi Kumar,

I already tried these options before posting the issue here.

The NDMP authentication is working fine but the volume name is not getting recognize.

Are you pointing to the controller in the cluster that owns the volume (or if striped, the node that owns the MDV metadata volume)?  GX/C-mode have node affinity for ndmp so the ndmp job has to be run from the node that owns the volume (even though available on any node for user access, for ndmp it runs on the node that has the data).  If you do a vol move between nodes, the job definition changes which is a little painful to manage.

Hi Vikash,

To illustrate Scott's explanation... If you are backing up volume named 'vol02' within vserver named 'vs1' that has a junction path of '/data' and is hosted on an aggregate that is on node-01 then the path specified on NetBackup will be...

[IP Address]:/vs1/vol02.

The IP address in this example should be a LIF that has its 'home-node' set to 'node-01' and is home when the backup job is initiated.

Hope this helps.
