CIFS performance differences on volumes

Greetings.

we have a strange problem on our FAS3270 running 8.1.3P2

Filer is serving CIFS for around 1300 Users. Vol size is 7 TB.

I have a user who runs an MS Access database with an append query inside, the append query reads lines from an excel spreadsheet and puts it into a database table. This usually takes a few seconds, from time to time it takes 10 to 20 minutes.  Right now it always takes 10 to 20 minutes, so it seems to have something to do with load.

CPU utilization is around 30% disk utilization around 10 %.

When I put the Access database file to my home folder which is also a large volume serving home directories for all users on the same filer, it also takes 10 to 20 minutes, so performance is also worse there.

When I create a small volume and share it on the same filer, performance is always good, and it only takes a few seconds.

All volumes have the same settings, all three volumes are on the same filer, performance on the single volume with only the database is great, but on large volumes with lot's of connected users it's worse.

So there seem to be limits per volume or per cifs share.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
