Does an OSSV systemstate restore require an OS rebuild + all previous patches?

[ Edited ]

Hi all,

If I want to restore a complete server, with a systemstate restore, I obviously need to rebuild with the OS I originally used. Do I also have to apply all the patches that where installed at the time of the systemstate backup?

Thanks.

Does an OSSV systemstate restore require an OS rebuild + all previous patches?

I should add, that is are the patch installs necessary before loading the OSSV agent and then restoring the complete system.

thx

The following is mentioned in the OSSV Installation and Administration Guide on page 154

http://now.netapp.com/NOW/knowledge/docs/ossv/rel30/pdfs/install.pdf

Install and configure the base operating system.

Note the following restrictions:

◆ Use the same operating system and service packs that were on

the original system.

◆ Use the same machine name as on the original system.

◆ Use the same drive letter mappings.

◆ Make sure that each drive is at least as large as the corresponding

drive was when the backup was made.

◆ Format each drive with the same file system type and version as

on the original system.

◆ Make sure that the hardware configuration is identical to the

original.

Do not perform any operating system configuration tasks beyond

those needed to satisfy these restrictions.

Ah thanks. I'd stupidly read the OSSV backup/restore guide, and it didnt mention the service packs. Does service packs assume also installing any later patches (but not service packs)?

Thanks.
