Estimated saving on E-Mail archive

Hello Together!

We use a gateway solution to archive our E-Mails, which are stored (legal audit proof) in an sybase database. So smtp data is stored inside the database.

On our FAS2050 we have an 1,5 TB CIFS Volume for the database, which uses ~350GB currently.

What do you think, does it make sense to dedupe the volume? And if, what would be the space saving?

Perhaps some of you already own similar experiences?

I hope you understand what I want to ask you in my, not perfect ;-), english.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Marcel

Marcel,

It doesn't sound like you will get massive savings.

However, why not just go & try it?

At the end of the day it's an archive, so if some performance overhead appears, that shouldn't be a problem. If you are totally unhappy with the result you can always disable a-sis (there is a way of even un-de-duping the volume, should you see the need for it).

Regards,

Radek
