Moving shelves from c-dot

Is it possible to move shelves (with entire agregate) from c-dot 8.2 to another system using ontap 9?

Same process that was possible on 7-mode systems.

Hi

You will need to do some downgrade/upgrade to be able to do it. And to be supported you need to move the shelves together with the old root volume (Means you can’t merge it with the new 9.0 cluster if you already created it – “Accessing the foreign volumes inside these aggregates on the clustered Data ONTAP system to which the shelves have been migrated is not supported”   from https://kb.netapp.com/support/s/article/how-to-remove-or-access-a-foreign-aggregate-an-aggregate-made-out-of-orphaned-disks-in-clustered-data-ontap

If you mean - moving shelf without losing data - no, so far there is no documented way to do it, except in CFT. Which proves, that technically it *is* possible 🙂

What you mean is called "head swap". Yes, this is supported (also on 8.2) but it is rather different from moving shelves.

The correct term is moving shelves, not head swap.. Because we were able to do that on 7-mode.
