Symptoms

Some commands appear to be missing from ONTAP.

Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) with NetBackup 4.5 Data Center error 219

FilerView is not working.

The filer is logging error messages Java disabled: Missing /etc/java/rt131.jar. and Zapi RPC is disabled: java not enabled.

Cause

One possible cause is that some of the Data ONTAP JAVA files may be missing.

Solution

Things to check:

  1. Check if JAVA files may have been accidentally removed. Compare JAVA files in the active file system to snapshots.
  2. Check if an upgrade was recently done, which may have not fully completed.

If either of the above occurred, try re-installing Data ONTAP.
If problems persist, contact NetApp Technical Support.

Thanks a lot renem.

The cluster takeover mechanism is not working, could you provide your inputs on this?

Thanks

Ravi

I think. Fix all this error first.

Is this a new system?  Has it been initialized before you deployed it?

I'd expect to see errors such as the one above if the system had it's file system re-initialized.  You need to basically upgrade ONTAP on it to get the full version on the software (inc. java etc back on it).

Symptoms

Error message: [sysconfig.sysconfigtab.openFailed:notice]: sysconfig: table of valid configurations (/etc/sysconfigtab) is missing

Solution

To correct this issue:

  1. Verify that the sysconfigtab file  is not present in the filer's /etc directory accessing the root volume from either Windows or UNIX and doing a directory listing in /etc.
  2. If the sysconfigtab has an extension on it (for example: .TXT), rename the file using the filer's mv command:
  3. filer> mv /etc/sysconfigtab.TXT /etc/sysconfigtab
  4. If the sysconfigtab does not exist in the filer's /etc directory, re-extract the Data ONTAP files for the version of Data ONTAP the filer is running. Refer to the Data ONTAP Upgrade Guide for instructions on installing Data ONTAP.
  5. Check the number of files.

Ravi,

I assume from the log output this is a cluster, and hopefully running the save version of OnTAP...you can copy the sysconfigtab file from the other filer.  I recommend mounting /vol/vol0/etc on both systems to a Unix box, then using "cp -p /your_unix_host_mount_test2/sysconfigtab /your_unix_host_mount_test1/"

Using "cp -p" preserves permissions, time and date stamps and other basic attributes.  This ensures you don't have any permissions problems created by copying the files.

You can do the same thing for the java files.  I don't see anything in the files that is specific to the filer.

Dear Ravi,

upgrade the DataONTAP to the latest version. This will mostly solve the java and othe file issues.

The base installation need to be upgraded in order to get all the features. Attached is the sample of the ONTAP upgrade and downgrade senario.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bhanoji.
