Ontap 8.1 not booting in vmware workstation

[ Edited ]

    Hi,

I have downloaded the 8.1 7 mode and opened it through vmware workstation But it gives a error during boot.It is not able to find any HDD in the Filer.

Re: Ontap 8.1 not booting in vmware workstation

Ctrl-C when prompted during boot to interrupt and then choose option 4.

Re: Ontap 8.1 not booting in vmware workstation

I tried it and struck with following error.

Re: Ontap 8.1 not booting in vmware workstation

'disk assign all' will assign all 25 disks to the controller.

Re: Ontap 8.1 not booting in vmware workstation

Go into the maintenance mode, while booting using ctrl-c and assign the disks or initialize the disks, will take some time to zero the disks and initialize them.

thank you,

Re: Ontap 8.1 not booting in vmware workstation

I am now able to get password screen and can log in . But how do i get the GUI mode from the CLI mode?

Re: Ontap 8.1 not booting in vmware workstation

My document referenced above explains it step-by-step (up to creating a cluster (data) vserver).

But a quick answer be you need to download OnCommand System Manager.

Re: Ontap 8.1 not booting in vmware workstation

Thanks for this explanation.  I figured this out after much trial and error last night, but still not sure why I had to do this.

Would anyone mind explaining this to me since I'm still pretty new to the NetApp world?  Using these simulators to get more hands on time with the interface, but keep hitting snags like this.

Thanks for all your help everyone!
