Quota not initializing!

Hi Folks,

I am trying to do a quota on for a volume on the filer, but still it shows 'off' state.

I tried it through CLI and here is what I see : 'quota: could not read quotas file.'

However, there are 2 other volumes for which the quotas function just fine.

Please help me out so that I can assign quotas for the new qtree created under the volume that is giving the trouble.

Regards,

Brikesh

My guess is that a typo was introduced into the /etc/quota file, which is causing quota to fail.  I would guess that the other two volumes haven't had quotas turned off/on or resized since the typo was introduced.  If I recall, there should be something indicating what the problem with the file is.  I thought it was part of the command output, but maybe it is in /etc/messages?

Did you recently update /etc/quotas?

Hi Bill,

We haven't changed anything on /etc/quotas.

Can you highlight what to check in the /etc/messages to dig deeper?

I can't - I don't have a system on which I can try breaking quotas.  Check /etc/messages right after you try turning on the quotas - if there's something there, it should be pretty obvious.

Can you post the contents of /etc/quotas?  And maybe the dialog of the "quota on" command?
