SHELF has a non-normal state

i am combing through my autosupport to start my filer upgrade process to the latest software version.  Currently we have a 2240HA running on 8.1.1RC code.  in the upgrade advisor it states:  SHELF has a non-normal state

 

it says to run environment status command and this condition must be cleared before a shelf upgrade can occur. i have ran the command but am not seeing or should i say i don't know what i am looking for in this output to tell me what the non normal state is or how to fix it:

Ok, I managed to see what's going on here

 

You need to do a few things here... I would suggest upgradeing the disk/shelf firmware prior to the upgrade process.  This is NDU and really can be done at any time.   Your diskqual file should be updated when you upgrade to the latest code.    Remind me what code you are going to again.

 

download the shelf firmware all_shelf_fw.zip - copy it to /software directory.  software  install all_shelf_fw.zip   - on both controllers.  From one controller issue, storage download shelf - Wait until all IOM modules are updated

 

You can do the same with all.zip file for disks.  If you aren't comfortable, you can follow the docs on the website or open a case.

 

And you shouldn't be running any production on RC Code...

so can i disregard  the last item about disk firmware version 4321 is not field upgradeable and to call support to have it replacced? will the disk/shelf upgrade work?

 

in regards to running RC in production. thats what was installed on here when we purchased and had a netapp engineer setup everything for us.  what i am doing now resolving that isuse and upgrade to non - RC code. i am going to go to 8.2.2

Currently in the process of updating the shelf firmware.  one thing that didnt get fixed when i upgraded the disk firmware was the disks that are showing with a version of 4321. those did not get upgraded to the latest code. Is there anyway to force update these or do they need to be replaced? i opened a ticket yesterday but the guy said that they would update when i dropped in the disk firmware version.

 

Does the Service Processor get updated with the data ontap upgrade?
