active/active stretched metrocluster dual controllers

hi,

We're investigating if the FAS3140 is comething for our company. Is it possible to have a stretched metrocluster where each site has dual controllers? So a "4-controller" stretched metrocluster? I can't seem to find any documentation about this...

thanks in advance!

Hi,

That's not doable.

http://www.netapp.com/us/library/technical-reports/tr-3548.html, page 8:

"It is important to remember that this will not allow one 31xx cluster to connect to another via MetroCluster. The only supported configuration is single controller to single controller (Stretch or Fabric)."

Radek

This is definitely marketing-level....but the easiest way to think of Metrocluster is.....

Imagine that you have a clustered system but the two cluster heads were in separate buildings/locations. To make it fully resilient, you then mirror all the disks at the aggregate level.

Implementation can definitely be far more complex than that (there's a fantastic TR on it) but that's the sales/high level technical description.
