About VASA Provider:

VMware vSphere Storage APIs for Storage Awareness enables unprecedented coordination between vSphere/vCenter and storage arrays. It provides built-in storage insight in vCenter to support intelligent VM storage provisioning, bolster storage troubleshooting and enable new DRS-related use cases for storage. NetApp supports vSphere Storage APIs for Storage Awareness via the plug-in, or “provider”, downloadable from this webpage. This provider is compatible with vSphere/vCenter and supports storage array makes and models list as described on the VMware Compatibility Guide.

What's New in This Version:

NetApp VASA Provider for E-Series now provides thin provisioned volume capability in addition to the existing capabilities. This version also supports firmware up to 08.20.

Overview of NetApp VASA Provider for E-Series:

NetApp VASA Provider for E-Series is a software component that supports the VMware® VASA (vStorage APIs for Storage Awareness) framework, first introduced in vSphere™ 5. It acts as an information pipeline between NetApp storage systems and vCenter™ Server, enabling you to monitor relevant storage system status by collecting data such as the following:
  • Storage system topology
  • LUN and volume attributes
  • Events and alarms

System Requirements:

NetApp VASA Provider for E-Series is supported on specific releases of VMware vSphere, ESX®, and E-Series firmware. See the NetApp Interoperability Matrix for the latest information about detailed requirements and supported configurations.

 

Operating Systems

You can install the VASA Provider on the following operating systems (OSs):

  • Windows Server 2003, service pack 2, 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2, 64-bit
  • Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2, 64-bit

Applications

The VASA Provider supports vSphere versions 5.0, 5.1, 5.5, 6.0.

The NetApp E-Series VASA Provider Array Manager is compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome browsers.
