Disk selves connecting with dual controller with single chassis

Hi Guys,

i am beginner in Netapp.  I am doing implementation & having active -active dual controller (V3220 Storage) chassis and two disk selves DS4246 (with SATA disks) and DS2246 (SAS) disks. Can i connect the both disks selves in single loop or need to connect in separate loop. Also can we use HA multipath cabling here. please suggest the recommended practice.

Re: Disk selves connecting with dual controller with single chassis

Sanjay -

You could put them on the same loops, given that they're both 6G shelves.

Best practice would be to use separate loops for SATA and SAS shelves.

It would also be best practice to do HA multipath cabling.

I'll hope you have an add on SAS card on those heads ?

For more information see the 'Multipath and Dual-Path Cabling Information' documentation under 'disk shelves' on the NetApp support site.

I hope this response has been helpful to you.

Re: Disk selves connecting with dual controller with single chassis

Hi Eugene,

     Thanks for quick reply!

both the controller is having 2 nos SAS port each for connecting the selves.. and no other add on SAS card on those heads...

so how can i procced to connect the selves? is HA multipathing is possible with available SAS ports??

and one more small query, if i will add SATA and SAS selves in single loop what will be the impact?

regards,

Sanjay

Sanjay -

I'd go ahead and put all the shelves on one set of loops then.

Please do read the 'Multipath and Dual-Path Cabling Information' doc I referred to.

Hajee -

That would be for 2200s - Sanjay has V3220s.

Here's a graphic with dual sets of shelves on 3200s in IOX chasis:

Re: Disk selves connecting with dual controller with single chassis

Hi Eugene,

Thanks to clear the more picture..

i have V3220 dual controller with single chasis (each controller is having 2 nos SAS port) and would connect two disk selves DS4246 (with SATA disks) and DS2246 (SAS) disks in single loop.

can you please share the diagram with that...

Regards,

Sanjay

Re: Disk selves connecting with dual controller with single chassis

Sanjay -

I don't have a diagram all ready, but it would look like just having connections to one stack of shelves in the above diagram, instead of both stacks ...
