Mirror Shelf (or other creative ideas for out of support shelves)

Has anyone done anything interesting with shelves that are no longer under support?  We have three 2Gbps AT-FCX shelves (loaded with 750GB SATA drives) that are no longer covered under our support contract.  We realize they are a liability for tier 1 since the hardware can no longer be replaced / troubleshot, but it feels a shame to just throw them out since its 25TBs of useable space.  If there some way to RAID1 two shelves?  Thanks for any creative ideas!

There is SyncMirror which is effectively RAID40 (meaning, you mirror two aggregates in RAID4 - or RAID_DP).
