Is it possible to convert a V-Series to a FAS? What is the conversion process and how do we regenerate the FAS licenses?

Why would you do that? You can connect NetApp shelves to a V-Series controller (as well as 3rd party arrays), so effectively it is FAS as well, right?

Correct, I use a gateway-licensed IBM N-Series with nothing but native disk shelves connected after we migrated away from our old DS4300's. You must also ensure you set the fc-non-array-adapter environment variable or you won't see the NetApp-native disk shelves. Works as it should.

That environment variable is only needed for FC-attached disk shelves, and only if using MP-HA cabling.  Newer SAS shelves do not require it be set.

Hi Sams,

The two platforms, while identical hardware, cannot be converted to the other.    A head swap would be required.

May I ask why you want to do this?  Perhaps we can help, provided we better understood the problem.

Thanks!
