You titled the post with VNX, why ?

Initializing disks won't wipe them.

You'd want to do a 'disk sanitize' to wipe them clean ...

I hope this response has been helpful to you.

Thanks Eugene, sorry I'm handling two storage types in my environment and got the title mixed up..

for disk sanitize, I would have to follow the steps below. Just a question as my storage are no longer under warranty, how do I get the disk sanitization license ?

You're very welcome.

I understand title mix up.

Tried to answer to your first post.

Yes, disk sanitize would require a license.

If you're no longer under support, you may still be able to get out of it.

There's two options:

Convince the local NetApp sales rep you'll buy some new NetApp. They could get you a temp license key.

You'd need to also convince your security guys that you're buying the support and license keys for the future.

Option two is to go out and buy a disk shredder. Shredded disks tell no stories.

These are real cool devices. They're like paper shredders, but they chop up disk drives.

I hope this response has been helpful to you.
