In a recent GovDataDownload discussion with Greg Gardner, NetApp’s chief architect for government, defense, and Intel solutions for the U.S. Public Sector, Gardner discusses the cloud, cyber security, and storage-related challenges for the Department of Defense (DoD) and Intel space.
Gardner shared with that the core of the issue for the DoD and Intelligence space is balancing the options offered by cloud and Big Data with the limited budgets available to them. He shared that cloud offers cost savings, but it is not necessarily a panacea given that critical and sensitive data needs to be secured and closely managed.
Gardner says that keeping information secure in the cloud will continue to be a challenge for CIOs, particularly when you take into consideration the fact that many agencies are running three Petabytes of data on their networks every month.
In addition to securing that Big Data, CIOs must determine how to analyze it and make it usable.
