How do you delete files & folders on Data ONTAP?

Hello Guys,

Most if not all people, from time to time, need to delete files on their system(s) and I'm wondering what the most effective and fastest way is to do so. We are mostly working this out via CIFS or NFS. NFS being the fastest with rm but I was wondering if anyone has an idea to enhance this?

I've experienced myself that with a FAS3140 System we run into issues (response time went down) while someone deleted multiple (30-60) 30GB zip files at once.

I found it pretty strange that there's no internal command to delete files yet on Data ONTAP... maybe one of you know if this is on the roadmap for the future. At least I haven't read about it yet.

Maybe I'm looking at this from the wrong perspective? Maybe there's arguments not to delete files? We clean up from time to time, safe's us space & money in the end.

Thank & Regards,

Carlos

The filer services up protocols, cifs, nfs, fcp, there is no reason to have an administrative backdoor to remove actual inodes.  Next..
