Multiple Operations Managers

IHAC who is deploying Ops Mgr 3.8 on a new server.  However, there will be a period of time where the old Ops Mgr 3.7.1 will exist along side the new Ops Mgr 3.8.  Is there any issue with both of these Ops Mgrs co-existing for a period of time?

As long as the two OpsMgr servers are not trying to actively manage the storage systems (e.g. pushing configurations, provisioning storage), this does not cause any technical problem other than doubling the monitoring load.

There may be secondary problems if you copied your database from the old server to the new one.  They'll both be using the same license keys.  This may confuse our autosupport system if both are sending in autosupports.  In addition, NetApp pays a royalty to our database vendor for each installed server, which we track based on the core license.  If you re-use the core license, we can't track this and can't uphold our end of the deal.

You can avoid both of these issues by getting an evaluation license for the new server while you are in your test period.

Will 3.8 be a fresh install?

If so, you'll lose all your historical data once you shut down the 3.7.x OM instance.

When building out the new DFM 3.8 server, the gameplan is to populate the new DFM database with a backup from the old DFM server.  Hence, we really shouldn't lose any historical data.
