QUESTION - WALF CP counters are not selectible in Performance Advisor

Hello all

I was giving a demo of 4.01 and when I was in Performance Advisor, creating a threshold, we browsed all the walk down to WAFL and CP times where there was an object called back to back CPs.  They wanted to set a threshold for that and any of the data elements in that subgroup were not selectible ( could not move it to the right ).

Is there a specific reason for this?  They did not seem disabled.

Thanks, Emanuel

Hi Emanuel,

The CP counters are diag counters that can be enabled for monitoring once you've enabled the option "perfAdvisorShowDiagCounters". In your case I believe it's enabled, which is why you are able to see these counters on the first place. However, (AFAIK) Performance Advisor does not support setting thresholds on these CP counters.

Thanks and regards

Yes Shiva is right, it’s a diag counter and you are seeing it because you have enabled the below option.

dfm options set perfAdvisorShowDiagCounters=yes

Back to Back CP is a label counter and Perf Advisor doesn’t support creating thresholds on label counter.

Hi Adai,

It’s a real shame that we still cannot create thresholds on Back to Back CP counters.

It’s one of the best indicators of a resource problem within the Filer.

It would be a massive proactive enabler for customers to be able to set thresholds on this object as it has the potential to identify performance issues before they become problematic.

Is anyone looking at changing this behavior?

Thanks

Richard

Emanuel & Richard:

One clarification is required. User can monitor the latency/throughput counters as the cp counter is going to affect these two values. Isn't that true? Could you please elobarate on how the threshold on back to back cp counters helps?

btw, Are  there any other diag counters other than back to back cp counter which could be useful?

Hello Everybody,

Is there a solution or bypass (using other counter) to trigger Back to back CP behaviors with perf Advisor Thresholds?

Like Richard says : it seems to be a good counter for capacity planning and proactive process.

Many Thanks in advance.

Yannick

Yannick,

There is no solution or bypass counter to trigger back to back CP behaviour with  perf Advisor Thresholds.
