root vol Best Practices

Hi Guys,

I want to know is there any best practices on where a root vol should live? Like should a root vol be on its on dedicated aggregate, I've had suggestions of someone that says it should but I see this a great big waste of space. If anyone knows or has any documentation on the matter that would be great.

Regards

Re: root vol Best Practices

You hit the nail in the head - a separate "root" aggregate is recommended, but simply not feasible for smaller systems.

So the common practice is to stick root volume on the same aggregate with data if there are not that many drives to play with.

Have a look at this:

In Cluster mode 8.3 Advanced Drive Partitioning changes the ball game.
