F1: The Race for Big Data Management

By Tara Bal, Head of Communications, NetApp APAC

Every September, the streets of Singapore transform into a dazzling race circuit, laid  bare for one of the most exciting times in extreme motorsports racing and this year proved to be no different. This year’s Singapore Grand Prix was action-packed and presented some firsts in the Singapore leg:

  • Reigning champion Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire early for the first time during this season due to a gearbox issue.
  • Sebastian Vettel scores the first pole for Ferrari, effectively robbing his rival, the honor of a top spot in the night race.
  • With Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen in 1st and 3rd place, Ferrari scores its first double podium finish since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.
  • For the first time, an intruder was spotted on the Marina Bay circuit. Vettel shouted into his radio “There is a man on the track! There is a man on the track!”

Amidst all the F1 excitement on the track, NetApp also had some firsts to boast about. For the first time, Val Bercovici, NetApp’s Cloud Czar was invited to speak on Bloomberg’s new radio channel, Bloomberg Radio, after having shared his views on the role of data in F1 with Bloomberg TV. To round it off, Val gave a play-by-play analysis of the race with André Ahchak, radio host of Singapore’s premier news radio station, 938Live.

Here’s a run-down of the day’s happenings:
