Secure Cities: A NetApp Dialogue on Data Security and Privacy

Last year, NetApp called together leaders from Singapore’s technology industry to host an in-depth discussion on the imperative role of data in society today at its inaugural NetApp Smart City Dialogue. Our guest speakers from Accenture, Kitaab, Intel, MarkLogic and Joyful Frog Digital Incubator, alongside NetApp’s regional executives, shared their insights into the data-driven solutions fast emerging in Smart Cities, as well as highlighted the fundamental importance of an open data ecosystem in bettering the lives of Singaporeans.

As Singapore continues to lead the region’s discussions on the future of Smart Cities, the dialogue is now increasingly focusing on how our cities have an inherent need and obligation to keep citizens and businesses safe from harm – be it physical or technological. At the heart of these discussions is the importance of data: how to make it secure and accessible to the businesses and organizations that rely on it to make informed decisions, every day.

Now it is Secure Cities that is at the forefront of discussions between business, government and the community.

On August 24, NetApp is hosting Secure Cities – A NetApp Dialogue to address the urgent issues of data protection, data privacy and countries’ cross-border responsibilities around security.

Ms Sheila FitzPatrick, Chief Privacy Officer, NetApp; Mr Rick Scurfield, President, NetApp APAC; and Mr Krish Arani, Vice President and Managing Director, NetApp East Asia, will host this year’s dialogue together with our esteemed panel of regional and international data security and privacy experts. They include:

  • Prof Yarime Masaru, University of Tokyo
  • Dr Madan Oberoj, Director, Cybercrime Directorate, INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation
  • Mr Zafar Anjum, Kitaab
  • Mr Paul Pang, Chief Security Strategist, Asia Pacific and Japan, Splunk
  • Mr Michael Counsel, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President Consulting, APAC, Symantec

For Smart Cities to survive and succeed, data-smart policies and regulations are increasingly imperative for governments and organizations. This year’s dialogue will look to discuss how these policies should help increase security of critical infrastructures such as financial institutions, transportation systems and hospitals; while risk management solutions should provide a holistic, in-depth approach to secure how data is being collected, shared and stored.

Today’s global landscape of rapid digital transformation is placing increased pressure on both the public and private sectors to step up their efforts to develop secure technologies, policies and risk management solutions.

We look forward to sharing the outcomes from the discussions which we are confident will be a critical stepping stone to advancing the Secure Cities of the future.
