Business and IT decision-makers across Germany united at the end of last month for the début AWS Summit in Frankfurt – and the event did not disappoint!
AWS unveiled that its Frankfurt data centre, launched back in October is now offering C4 instances, necessary for compute-bound workloads, which is an interesting milestone in the company’s European expansion. For NetApp customers, this spells good news, as it widens the scope of use for AWS data centres in Europe, making them more flexible than ever before.
It seems to me that, as more and more service providers and colocation providers roll out data centres across Europe and widen their scope of use, cloud-based platforms will become increasingly prevalent, offering businesses a robust service-based alternative to the provision of IT.
However, to make hybrid cloud a palatable recipe, you need the magic ingredients of access and control that you enjoy in your own data centre. Built on NetApp clustered Data ONTAP, the No.1 branded storage operating system, NetApp Cloud ONTAP for AWS provides that level of control along with the flexibility of a virtual machine – all on demand, and with an affordable pay-as-you-go model.
Another key theme that developed during the event in Frankfurt was the importance of security. This is something that we at NetApp believe will be of increasing relevance as we move towards the changes in the data sovereignty laws later this year.
These security concerns and the need to adhere to data sovereignty laws are undoubtedly top of mind for any business working with and storing sensitive data. It’s something that NetApp works hard to maintain, with solutions such as NetApp Private Storage for AWS, which provides a ‘next to the cloud’ option for companies looking to marry security and flexibility with lower costs.
Will the security debate still be top of mind at the AWS Summit London on 15th April? Myself and the team on the ground are looking forward to many more exciting discussions. Come down and meet us at our booth G3 at the ExCel Centre to find out more about NetApp’s cloud solutions and catch up on what’s new at AWS and NetApp. Plus, you could be in for the chance to win one of these lovely t-shirts, modelled by a friend of NetApp below!
