A lot of people think that storage adds way too much complexity to a cloud strategy - but we don’t believe in that. Get one storage platform that performs and scales - it’s that simple. Yesterday, at VMware® PEX, NetApp announced a couple of new solutions, one was the NetApp Solution for VMware vCloud® Suite – great for building and managing private clouds (and available soon as NetApp Verified Architecture), and the other one was the NetApp Solution for VMware Horizon™ Suite for end-user computing. Both solutions are supported by NetApp's clustered Data ONTAP® for non-disruptive operations.
The storage platform is paramount to any cloud infrastructure layer, and storage efficiency, unified architecture, HA, multiprotocol capability, ease of management, integration with VMware vCloud Suite, and enterprise backup and DR capabilities are all earmarks of cloud-enabled storage. What I like about our solution for vCloud Suite is that our unified storage architecture extends all of the efficiencies and flexibility - already available for VMware vSphere® virtualized environments - to VMware vCloud Suite, enabling companies to more efficiently realize the full benefits of cloud computing. Snap Creator™ for enterprise-class back up, the Virtual Storage Console (VSC) for providing VI admin access to the advanced storage capabilities of Data ONTAP, and the Storage Replicator Adapter (SRA) for coordinating Snap Mirror and VMware Site Recovery Manager™ for disaster recovery, are just a few examples of the powerful functionality of the solution. What this means for our customers is that the data management requisites for securely deploying vCloud solutions are built-in and always available in a single agile data infrastructure for ease of management and interoperability for enabling private clouds. The NetApp Solution for VMware Private Cloud will be available as a NetApp Verified Architecture (NVA), so our customers can deploy private cloud solutions with confidence.
NetApp and VMware also announced the NetApp Solution for VMware Horizon Suite for end-user computing. This solution provides a nonstop, scalable data infrastructure foundation that delivers simple, secure access and sharing of enterprise data anywhere and on any device. It enables enterprises to successfully empower their mobile workforces while ensuring IT maintains secure access and control of the data. The tight integration of leading NetApp storage technologies and VMware Horizon Suite™ also enhances resource utilization and simplifies operational management, delivering desktops and data at low cost and greatest value, helping businesses improve their ROI. With our new Snap Creator plug-in for Horizon Workspace customers now get enterprise-class backup capability for all their Horizon data making it more easily to comply with security mandates and data retention policies. Horizon View™ 5.2, with cloning off-load capability through VCAI, leverages NetApp FlexClone to speed up the cloning process and provides the capability for customers to rapidly deploy desktops from a single View console.
So we opened the week yesterday by announcing to key solutions and hosted a killer Boot Camp for our Partners. Next, I’m looking forward to catching the upcoming sessions this week featuring my colleagues Vaughn Stewart and Chris Wells. Vaughn has three sessions: Storage Designed for the Software Defined Data Center, Storage Strategies for VMware vSphere and vCloud Suite (co-presenting with VMware’s Alex Jauch), and a customer-focused session on public cloud featuring Luke Norris from PeakColo. Chris is introducing our new Snap Creator plug-in and Best Practices for enterprise-class backup for Horizon Workspace in a session with VMware’s Mac Binesh. Great sessions and timely topics that are sure to provide valuable insight and interesting perspectives from these renowned NetApp Storologists.
DO THIS, NOT THAT: If you’re attending PEX, don’t squander your money at the blackjack table (hey, we work too hard to give it away, right?). Instead, stop by the NetApp booth #1409 and talk with our vExperts in person to learn more about our solutions for VMware environments, attend the cool breakout sessions referenced above, and participate in NetApp’s Hands-on Lab to boost your proficiency in designing, building, and operating complete, delegated vCloud backup services.
