Hi Vinay

You need to install the NetApp Device Specific Module (DSM) on the Windows server. It is also a good idea to install the Host Utilities Kit.

For ESX or ESXi you just need to set the Path Selection Policy to Round Robin (VMware) in the LUN properties. You can install the Host Utilities Kit on ESX but ESXi does not support this.

It is also a good idea to enable ALUA on your storage array igroups.

Hi there,

for Windows just use Data ONTAP DSM, with latest version there is no need for host utils anymore.

For ESX use the virtual storage console, works fine with ESX and ESXi and sets all recommended values.

godspeed!

do you have snapdrive installed on the host ? if not snap drive would be the best option for managing the LUNs / paths as well

SnapDrive itself does not manage paths:

"MPIO is not installed with SnapDrive for Windows versions later than 4.1, and path management is not available until a new version of MPIO is installed."
