Announcing OnCommand System Manager 3.0 Storage Management Software

A better view of configuration and management

by Brenda Ioris

Wherever you look, you can find evidence of the vast amounts of data we are generating along with the accompanying need to manage it.  To say that most IT administrators are masters of multitasking is probably an understatement. This is especially true in small and midsized enterprises where daily to-do lists can be long and varied.

So, how can you keep configuration simple and easily add advanced management features as you need them?  The latest release of NetApp® OnCommand® System Manager 3.0 storage management software offers administrators a simple, powerful, browser-based management tool that is designed to make it easy to configure and manage individual and clustered NetApp® storage systems.

Built to manage NetApp storage systems running the Data ONTAP® operating system, System Manager 3.0 helps simplify the management of clustered ONTAP 8.2.  For sites running 7-Mode and clustered Data ONTAP, both environments can be managed from a single instance of System Manager.
New features and enhancements introduced in OnCommand System Manager 3.0 includes:
–     SnapVault Management for clustered Data ONTAP 8.2
–     Storage Virtual Machine setup simplification
–     Support for CIFS local users and groups
–     Simplified workflow for SnapMirror management
–     HA Monitoring
A complete list of features, enhancements, browser and OS versions supported, such as Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, as well the Java 7 platform, can be found in the product release notes.

There is no additional cost to use System Manager Storage management software. No license is required, entitlement and support comes with a purchase of NetApp FAS or V-Series hardware.

If you’re a NetApp customer, you can download the new System Manager from the NetApp Support site. You will need your NetApp credentials to access the Download section. For customers who use older versions of System Manager to manage clustered Data ONTAP systems, NetApp recommends downloading and using OnCommand System Manager 3.0.

Does anyone know, why there is no "Advanced" link in Oncommand System Manager for DataOntap 8.2 Cluster mode? Its available for DataOntap 8.1.* but not for 8.2.
