Data ONTAP Edge: Now available for clustered Data ONTAP

NetApp first released Data ONTAP Edge in mid-2012, offering a new way to address the needs of distributed enterprises and remote offices. These remote offices typically have little to no IT personnel onsite but require some local storage with a mechanism to backup or replicate remotely to another site, such as a central data center. Data ONTAP Edge is ideal for these environments and delivers a high feature rich storage solution in a small foot print with advanced backup and replication to NetApp FAS or V-Series storage.

Data ONTAP Edge has offered support for FAS and V-Series systems deployed with Data ONTAP operating in 7-Mode. With the release of version 8.2.1, Data ONTAP Edge adds the ability to act as a single node cluster. This added functionality means that you can deploy Data ONTAP Edge in the context of your distributed enterprise built on a foundation of clustered Data ONTAP. SnapMirror and SnapVault for clustered Data ONTAP have been designed with increased efficiency to reduce latency and bandwidth requirements over distance. Support for clustered ONTAP is only available with the Data ONTAP Edge Premium license bundle.
