This week at Microsoft TechEd 2013, we are off to a ruckus start. At NetApp, we’re showcasing our latest offering in the NetApp for Microsoft Private Cloud solution set – a Best of TechEd-finalist, FlexPod with Microsoft Private Cloud validated with Microsoft Private Cloud FastTrack V3. A brand new Cisco Validated Design has been published for this solution, which you can see in full here.
This solution is the result of nearly five years of work here at NetApp and is our most compelling, capable solution yet. Built on the power of Windows and intelligence of Data ONTAP, we partnered closely with Cisco to build the next-generation private cloud platform.
Starting with a proven Private Cloud platform in System Center 2012, we added the deep network performance and security only available in Cisco’s Nexus 1000v Virtual Switch extension for Hyper-V and VM-FEX. Add in an impressive payload of standards-based management in the form of SMI-S, PowerShell, etc., and we had a platform that we knew was ready to take on all competitors.
Now to be clear, we’re not just talking about performance; performance is a given at this point. The World #1 Storage Management OS – Data ONTAP – and the power of our NetApp Agile Data Infrastructure and Virtual Storage Tiering ensure that Windows stays fed and can show its real capacity. But where we really start to pull away from the competition is in the manageability of the solution and the support we provide to our customers; we start with the industry’s most complete support offering in the FlexPod Collaborative Support lab and the single point of contact in the NetApp Customer Success Services. Onto this stable workhorse we add the magic sauce in our combined deep integration with System Center 2012 SP1 and Windows Server 2012.
Beginning with the NetApp Data ONTAP PowerShell Toolkit and Cisco UCS Power Tools for general automation management, we add System Center 2012 integration via the NetApp OnCommand Plug-In 3.2 for Microsoft product, delivering full storage lifecycle management and reporting. When combined with the next-generation computing platform offered in Cisco’s UCS Computing system and Integration with Operations Manager and Orchestrator, that’s where the magic (automation and self-service) happens.
