[Format_InvalidString] Error in SMSP 7.x

You may run into this error occasionally in SMSP 7.x (7.0, 7.1, 7.1.1) which is caused by a communication issue between the Control Service and the Control database. This causes Microsoft Silverlight to be unable to retrieve some resources (strings, icons, etc.) for the UI. In order to resolve this issue here are two things to try:

  1. Clear your Internet Explorer (browser) cache then re-open SnapManager for SharePoint Manager console, if this does not resolve your issue try #2.
  2. Restart the SMSP Control Service which will re-establish a connection with the Control database.
