SAP envisions the SAP HANA Real Time Data Platform (RTDP) as the future enterprise architecture for multi-temperature data management. At the core of RTDP, SAP HANA serves hot data for real-time processing assisted by SAP Sybase ASE systems for lowered TCO, cold and warm data processing. If we consider the RTDP vision of a single platform for SAP applications, we see the FlexPod Datacenter for SAP Applications solution as a powerful converged infrastructure to serve this enterprise architecture.
The journey to that has already started. The Cisco UCS with NetApp Storage for SAP HANA solution describes how the FlexPod infrastructure components are used for the hot part of RTDP. Now there is a way to seamlessly integrate SAP Sybase ASE into the FlexPod Datacenter for SAP Applications solution, so you have an additional database option for running your SAP system in a private cloud. The new Sybase ASE addendum to the FlexPod Datacenter for SAP Applications deployment guide describes in detail how to do just that. Leveraging the NetApp SnapCreator framework for backup, restore and cloning of SAP Sybase ASE systems and the flexible design of the solution, it describes how to easily add additional SAP workloads based on the existing FlexPod Datacenter solution and deployment description. With this, all the integrated use cases of the solution, such as end-to-end data protection, data and application mobility (including SAP Landscape Virtualization Management integration), and SAP system provisioning and cloning are available for SAP Sybase ASE systems.
With SAP’s announcement of the SAP HANA tailored data center integration we foresee the next step being the merger of the Cisco UCS with NetApp Storage for SAP HANA appliance with the FlexPod Datacenter for SAP Applications solution to provide a combined infrastructure for the RTDP serving cold, warm and hot data like water from the faucet.
