I'm curious if there is any detailed documentation available on integrating OCI with ServiceNow.  Possibly on how to import data from OCI into ServiceNow?

I found the below pdf, but we are looking for something with more specific details.

We have extended our Data Domain support to include DDVE - Data Domain OS running as a VM, as opposed to on a hardware appliance. Same data source, it now handles both implementation's quirks and nuances.

If you are deploying EMC PowerMax into your environment, and are an OCI customer, you:

#1. Are very likely going to need a datasource patch

#2. You really want to take this opportunity to reassess what EMC Solutions Enabler versions are deployed in your environment.

If you have OCI Solutions Enabler datasources, you want to map out:

Which datasources live on which Acquisition Unit?

Are those datasources utilizing Solutions Enabler "client / server" mode, or do they have "local" access to Symmetrix arrays?

When you have more than one Solutions Enabler datasource on an AU, that implies that at least one of them is using client / server mode. It is at this point, you need to start contemplating what the SolEnabler version is on those servers.

Hypothetical scenario:

Datasources X,Y and Z live on one OCI AU. That OCI AU can only have one Solutions Enabler version installed. That SE version needs to be the same as, or older, than the servers that those 3 datasources talk to.

If you have 8.3, 8.4 and 9.0 installed on those 3 servers, you can only conceivably install SE 8.3 on the OCI AU because that is the newest version that is not newer than any of those 3 servers.

But the problem is - if you are using 8.3 as a client against 9.0, is that going to return reliable information about a PowerMax, given that 8.3.x pre-dates the PowerMax by a few years? There are likely going to be aspects of PowerMax that 8.3 cannot express.

So, in situations like this, you may need to:

Deploy new RAUs, on which different SE versions live, to live in harmony with version matching rules

Maintain SE version standards / avoid SE version sprawl - don't only deploy SE 9.0 where you need to for PowerMax - instead, deploy it consistently to avoid version compatibility headaches.

We shipped our latest OCI maintenance release, and data source service pack today. I would recommend all OCI 7.3.1 through 7.3.10 users to look at installing Service Pack 9 to bring their data collection code up to date.

Hello all-

How are you monitoring you SGWS devices ? we have a 12 node cluster, and no way to monitor the devices ? what are others using ? 

We have OCI, solarwinds, but, no plugins or anything...help!!!

I am trying to do a report about Oracle ZFS array storage pools. Looking at the data source support matrix dated Dec 11, 2019, on page 183 under the Oracle ZFS data source under Insight -> Storage Pool -> Raw to Usable Ratio. 

I want to use this ratio to make the raw space match the usable space in an OCI report compared to what I have on an array. Example, I have a ZFS pool that is using raidz1 log stripe and cache stripe on ~180 TB of raw disk. The usable amount per the ZFS array is 117 TB. With the ratio I believe I could take the raw capacity and display it to close to what the ZFS array reports.

My problem is I look at the Schema diagram and I don't find it. I also go into DWH report and can't find it via the insertable objects under Storage and Storage Pools. 

Am I overlooking it? How to I use it?

I have a quick question. We are adding in all of our EMC Isilons into OCI. The Configuration and Admin Guide says that "Root permissions to the Isilon storage" is required. When we try to create an OCI user on the Isilon, even directly in the Isilon Administrators group, we still get an error in OCI that says, "Internal error : Sudo command run permission issue". After looking that up in NetApp support, I found a KB that kind of addresses it. Document ID BR17958. However, it only says that sudo access is needed, not how to achieve it.

Does the Isilon data source require the actual root user to be used for authentication? As a test, I tried this and it does work. It seems sketchy to have to use the root account though for monitoring. Thanks for any info.

OCI's Brocade CLI datasource uses:

SSH commands for inventory/configuration data

SNMP queries for performance collection

What you need to know about your environment before starting down the path of creating a least privilege user account for OCI to use?

Am I using Virtual Fabrics technology?

        If the answer is yes - are we likely to add more VF in the future?

Are we looking to have OCI gather performance data off the switches?

        If the answer is yes, AND you are using VF, you are going to have to use SNMP v3 to gather performance.

Inventory:

You need a user account. What does that user account need?

Permissions on all the virtual fabrics configured on the physical switch. Now, if there is any chance you are going to add more VF in the future, I would recommend granting your service account permissions on all 128 VF IDs up front - otherwise, if a new VF is created that your OCI service account will not have privileges on, your OCI datasources will fail as OCI will detect the presence of a VF it is not able to fully understand.

Chassis role - this is a boolean state. When you create an account, you may or may not grant it. OCI's service account will need it.

So:

userconfig --add OCI -l 1-128 -h 128 -r user -c user

This creates "OCI" ,

granting permissions on all possible Virtual Fabrics (they can only be numbered 1-128) -> "-l 1-128"

sets the home VF to 128, which OCI honestly doesn't require (it is smart enough to deal with any home value) -> "-h 128"

Assigns OCI the role of "user" , a default configured role - if this role has been deleted, this command may error -> " -r user"

Assigns OCI the chassis role of "user". Again, if this has been deleted, this command may error -> " -c user"

You will be prompted to enter a password. You are done, from an *inventory* perspective.

Now, performance.

First SNMP - SNMP supports pushing traps aka informs for alarming, and polls for pulling information. OCI is going to be exclusively polling, so any verbiage about traps/informs is irrelevant to OCI.

Brocade switches ship with 6 slots for SNMP v3 users - snmpuser[1-3] and snmpadmin[1-3]. These are not real users on the switch, and you cannot use them for performance collection by OCI, in environments where VF is in use - these users are not privileged on any VF other than the default VF, 128.

So, you need to put your OCI user account in one of the 6 user slots. We would recommend only of the 3 read only user slots, as OCI doesn't need RW access.

You do this by running the cli command

snmpConfig --set snmpv3

It is a text wizard interface, where you are prompted to either enter new values for any of the fields, or hit enter to accept the existing value.

Replace one of the snmpuser[1-3] with the username of your OCI service account you have created - it is our strongest possible recommendation to put the username you are using for inventory into one of those read only slots.

For Auth protocol:

SHA is stronger than MD5.

NoAuth means you don't want to enable authentication.

If you define a value that requires a password you will need to put that password in the "SNMP Password" field in your OCI Brocade datasource configuration

For privacy (encryption) protocol:

AES256 is stronger than AES128 which is stronger than Des which is stronger than no encryption whatsoever, NoPriv

However - OCI does not work out of the box with AES256, as the standard Java editions do not include cryptography stronger than 128bits. Going with AES256 may make maintaining and upgrading OCI more tricky

Any of the values other than "NoPriv" will require you to enter a password - this could be the same, or different from the authentication password. Document accordingly.

The privacy aka encryption password needs to go in the Advanced Configured -> "SNMP Privacy Password" field.

Other recommendations:

Build the same user account + snmp account of all the switches in the physical fabric. Consistency is good

Master level topics, or "What else could go wrong?"

It is possible the above will not work, because:

Access control lists - Brocade supports SNMP access control lists. Factory default is that there are none, and therefore the behavior is they are open. But if a single entry is added to an access control list, there is now an implicit default deny at the end - think of it as a firewall.

snmpconfig --show accessControl

If you see 6 entries that state ...No access host configured yet , you are looking at a factory default config, and this is not your problem.

If you see entries, you will need to add the IP address of the OCI point of acquisition - where does your datasource live, on the OCI server, or on a Remote Acquisition Unit?

SNMP policy - perhaps you were trying to avoid cryptography. But the switch may have a policy that requires it:

snmpconfig --show seclevel

What matters to OCI is the "GET" level.

3 disables SNMP entirely, and is incompatible with OCI performance gathering

2 requires both authentication and privacy, so if you were adding your SNMPv3 user and not specifying either, that user's configuration is therefore unusable

Can anyone please provide docs/pdf which will briefly explain about usage of Powershell cmdlets for OCI.

I've installed the OCI Powershell cmdlets using  "Install-Module OnCommand-Insight"

Once After install i'm able to connect the OCI server
"$Credential = Get-Credential
Connect-OciServer -Name myserver.mydomain.tld -Credential $Credential -Insecure"

After that, Not sure what the issue is what ever the cmdlet i try .. Im getting the output in xml format.

Can anyone please share any doc/pdf which briefly expalin about usage and example of Powershell cmdlets for OCI.

Is it possible either using OCI or OCUM to create a report that would show uptime of a particular storage node? I need to report on this for SLA's. I know it is not as simple as some would make it out to be because there are many things that can affect whether an application actually sees it's storage, but for starters I am thinking we could just report on uptime of the nodes. In a quick look though I am not seeing that as something I could easily report on from OCI or OCUM and want to see if it is even possible before I waste any more time.

If you are an OCI customer that would like to see IBM Cloud Object Storage support in OCI, please drop me ( ostiguy at netapp dot com ) a note as we are exploring it as a possibility for a new data source.

We recently implemented a minor enhancement for the OCI IBM SVC datasource, which can discover SVC, v7000, etc.

We are now going to populate a boolean value on the volume and storage pool objects to let you know if they are, or are not encrypted.

Here is an interesting one. Business Entities were added when using version 7.3.0 via the Java GUI. Export from Server to DWH was set and worked. Upgrade to 7.3.2 several months later and DWH reports showing entities and entites in HTML worked as expected until late Dec. 
This is noticed now as I am working up the monthly reports. 

Checking the Java GUI if I go to an internal volume, right click and select Set Business Entities it shows the previously set entry.

Go to HTML 5 GUI (default GUI), search for the intneral volume, and look at Business Entites it says None.
Late Dec the DWH had an issue that required a restart of the platform. This "might" be a reason if, there weren't 4 arrays impacted that all show different dates for when the annotations were no longer reported. (Maybe weird is a better description than interesting.)

Any ideas on this one prior to going to support?
