Background & Context:We are currently managing a DS4486 disk shelf environment and recently encountered a situation where, after replacing a disk carrier, the shelf continues to display H1 evacuation state on the operator display panel.As documented in the DS4486 Installation and Service Guide, the H1 shelf mode is initiated automatically when one disk drive in a carrier faults and data from the good disk drive is being copied to a spare. During this state, the system prevents removal of any faulted disk carrier to protect data integrity. However, in our case, the H1 state appears to persist beyond the expected evacuation window even after the carrier replacement has been completed.Why I need this KB:I have reviewed the standard DS4486 documentation, but it does not provide specific troubleshooting steps for scenarios where the H1 evacuation state remains active after a disk carrier has already been replaced. A colleague of mine indicated he's never reconfigured reporting nodes when moving volumes containing LUNs from one HA Pair in a cluster to another HA Pair. My understanding from NetApp documentation has been that you have to add the destination nodes as reporting nodes in advance of a volume move if you want to retain optimized paths.

I created a volume as a test and moved it to another HA Pair without adjusting reporting nodes. Sure enough, the nodes I moved the volume to were added automatically to the list of reporting nodes for the LUN! This behavior contradicts NetApp documentation which indicates it must be done manually. Has anyone else encountered this? Does anyone know if there's a scenario where it wouldn't happen automatically?

In the past, we relied on McAfee & the antivirus connector to get vscan to work for our filers, but McAfee was retired and replaced with Trellix and i'm having difficulty getting that to work with vscan again. Please advise!

Trellix is fully downloaded, and it's been given the IP for our machine but that's about it. I'm not sure how to proceed from here

the event show command gives no entry. ontap 9.1P2. Default installation. No event configuration. Event status show command shows some hits for many messages.

I compared all the event [destination, config,route,...] with my simulator and it is the same. Simulator shows event messages ok.

How is it possible?

New netapp 4 node cluster has been setup and all the port are showing as "UP" while I issue "net port show" command. But "ifgrp show" command show "Partial" for some wierd reason. 

We are running Ontap 9.3.P1 version. Can someone help me to fix this ?

Per user support recommendation for an upgrade, there will need to be a maintenance windows when CIFS is being used.  Eventhough we have two controllers (FAS2650), is this true?  

On a typical upgrade, how long does it take for two controllers?

ActiveIQ Unified Manager documentation says the following about the local account used for discovery:

This account must have the admin role with Application access set to ontapi, ssh, and http.

My question: is this really accurate? I don't see why it requires the admin role since AIUM is just reading data to populate charts and tables. Anyone have insight here? We are trying to reduce service accounts to the least amount of permissions needed and I'm thinking this is a good candidate for reduction, but documentation says otherwise.

Just replaced a drive, but one of our aggregates is still showing failed disks. How can we get the status back to normal? We have plenty of spares.

I just need some clarification here from any expert here regarding to my NetApp AFF C250 setup. 

Below is my queries:

1) If let say i have 8 disk on my current new AFF C250 and we set-up the aggregate when using the system manager,  the default RAID that automatically assigned by the NetApp is RAID-DP right? and will be have 2 parity disk and 6 disk for data. Is it correct?

2) Is it the ADP feature is available if I configure the RAID-DP type in the AFF C250?

We have used a dedicated physical port for cluster and nodes management, separated from data LACP ports group on each node in the cluster. LACP group (4x10GbE) has been used for all DATA LIF's 

My question is:

Is this still a recommended setup? Can node mgmt LIF be created on Data LACP group which should be used for Data Lif? and Why?

I'm trying to pull the most recent configuration backup from my clustered netapp.

7mode allows you to do a simple 'config dump' but looks like its a bit trickier to get for CDOT.

Does anyone have experience/knowledge on pulling CDOT config backup files via the API ?

My current Ontap version is 9.1P5.

I want to upgrade it to be ontap 9.5P2.

According to upgrade advisor, I need to upgrade it to be 9.3 first.

Therefore, on the same night, I will upgrade ontap from 9.1P5 to 9.3P12 and then 9.5P2.

As I know that, after i upgrade it to 9.3P12, there are several firmware will be update automatically if the version in your cluster is older than the firmware that is bundled with the ONTAP upgrade package.

They are BIOS, Flash Cache, SP, Disk, and Disk shelf.

My question here is 

Do I need to wait for all those firmware upgrade completed and then upgrade it from 9.3P12 to 9.5P2 or I can continue to upgrade it to 9.5P2 after veified the version - 9.3P12 and HA status, aggregate, and lifs are home port?

9.3P12 release on 5/27/2019

9.5P2 release on 3/24/2019 which is earlier then 9.3P12.

Does it matter for my upgrade ? 

I'm trying to set up AD authentication so that AD administrators can access the CLI and System Manager using their AD accounts

1. I've run CIFS setup and added a data SVM to AD, the SVM is called 'svm-hostname' and the computer account (CIFS server) is called 'hostname-cifs'

2. I've run the command >security login domain-tunnel create -vserver svm-hostname

3. I've then run the command '>security login create -vserver hostname -user-or-group-name "AD SEC GRP" -application ontapi -authentication-method domain -role admin'

4. I've repeated the above for ssh and http

Is it because the AD computer name ('hostname-cifs') is different to the data svm ('svm-hostname')

Hi Team,

We have 8 nodes cdot cluster (9.1) comprising of 2x FAS6290, 2x FAS8080 and 4x FAS9000.

FAS6290 were the initial nodes of this cluster thus holding Epsilon and Quorum of the cluster. Now we need to remove these FAS6290 nodes from the cluster. Could anyone please point to the documentation or procedure to safely remove/decommision these nodes from the cluster. We have already moved all the volumes to other nodes.

Two FAS 8020, NetApp Release 9.1P6 with SVM DR configured. When a volume gets created on Site A SVM it then gets automatically replicated to Site B SVM. Site B SVM is not running until failover. A few other things happend in a WFA workflow but that is basically what is going on.

I need to delete a few volumes but cannot because they are in a SVM DR relationship. When I attempt quiese, break or release a volume I get the message,  "Error: command failed: Cannot complete the operation because the destination volume "VOLUMES" belongs to Vserver "SVM" which is configured as the destination endpoint of Vserver DR relationship."

I can exclude a volume from SVM DR with this command, 

source_cluster::> volume modify -vserver vs1 -volume test_vol1 -vserver-dr-protection unprotected.

This will remove the relationship from System Manager but if you run list destination from the command line it still appears that relics of relationship are still present. Interesting enough, I can delete the destination volume but not the source volume. It it gives a similar message to the one above. Here is the message.

Data ONTAP API Failed: Volume "VolumeName" in Vserver "SVM" is the source endpoint of one or more SnapMirror relationships. Before you delete the volume, you must release the source information of the SnapMirror relationships using "snapmirror release". To display the destinations to be used in the "snapmirror release" commands, use the "snapmirror list-destinations -source-vserver SVM -source-volume Volume" command.

I have attempted the suggested commands and that is where I find the relics of the relationship even though I have excluded it from protection. I also can not doing anything on volume and will received the message above.

Support suggest I break the entire SVM DR relationship, then I will be able to interact with the volumes and eventually delete them. This seems excessive. Plus, while I am deleting the volumes, my other volumes are syncing on their scheduled interval.

Any suggestions?  

Hi -  i  am running OnTap cDOT 9.1P7.

I need to gather information for every snapmirror transfer which has completed and is still in the logs. I want to generate a single text file with the following fields

RelaionshipID:Start timestamp:FinishTimeStamp:TransferSize:TransferStatus

There are many logs and i can't seem to find any clear 'Start' and 'End' in the logs

Can anyone help me identify these fields so I can write some code to extract the data?

A few years ago, a colleague created a PowerShell script to throttle active SnapMirror jobs during business hours, and a separate script to unthrottle them at night. The scripts only apply to jobs that run into daytime hours and in some cases continue into a second day. We have to throttle during business hours or it brings these offices to a crawl.

We are about to convert the filers at our remote offices from 7-mode to cdot. Unfortunately, the "snapmirror throttle" command we use in 7-mode doesn't have an equivalent in cdot. i'm looking online and in help to determine the best way to accomplish the same task in cdot. Everything I've found so far adjusts throttling for the next transfer but not the current one. Any ideas?

Here is an example of the script we use for 7-mode:

Invoke-NaSsh -Name <filer_name> -Command "snapmirror throttle <amount> <destination_path>"

If I have more than 500 volumes and many shares or exports, it would be more convenient if I could tag some objects with company-internal attributes.

For some objects I can use the option "-comment", but it would be simpler if ontap cli or the system manager by default want to support tagging in a separate field. This makes it easier for me to research my surroundings.

Please enlighten me: With no SnapDrive on board, how is it possible to identify the name of an iSCSI LUN on an ONTAP 9 filer?

I tried to match any sort of number from the outputs of

::> lun mapping show

::> lun show

and

::> iscsi session show

with the outputs of

PS C:\Users\admin> iscsicli

and

PS C:\Users\admin> Get-IscsiConnection

to no avail.

All I want is to find the name of the LUN/volume on Windows to find the corresponding object on the filer to modify.

Any clues?

Is there a way in cdot to disable all password policies temporarily? I know there was a way in 7-mode because I did it a few times, but can't find the equivalent in cdot. Use case is simple: I have a local account set up on all of our clusters that already has a secure password. On ONE of those clusters I need to 'change' the password to upgrade from MD5 to SHA512, but I don't want to actually change it. Problem is the "disallowed-reuse" setting under security login role config modify has a MINIMUM of 6, so the only way around it is to disable all policies, make the change, then re-enable.

I am trying to configure 2 nodes (with 3 stacks of disks) that we just added to our lab environment. These nodes were decommissioned from the production environment. The disks in 2 stacks are displaying as broken with one stack showing amber light on all but 3 disks.

Please can someone direct me as to how to solve this problem(s) as I am new to Netapp Storage?

I'm setting up our A700, and need to figure out how to convert e4e 40g to the e4e-h 10g ports. I have the breakout cabled up between the A700 and the end network switches. Where is the magic setting to make this happen?
