I've upgraded the OnTAP Simulator numerous times in the past, but I'm running across an issue when trying to go from 9.14.1 to 9.15.1. Any ideas why I keep getting this error? I unblocked the files before running them, and tried re-downloading the file. I know the file is not corrupt as I used the same one on some production clusters.

I’m running into an issue with the ONTAP Simulator and wanted to check if others have seen the same behavior or if this might be version-related.

Environment:

NetApp ONTAP Simulator

OVA: vsim-netapp-DOT9.16.1-cm_nodar.ova

Running on VMware vSphere

Clientversion: 2.18.0 Client-Build-Nummer: 23593406  ESXi-Version: 8.0.3

ESXi-Build-Nummer: 24677879

What I did:

Deployed the OVA without errors

Completed the cluster setup successfully All disks from the OVA are present and visible (disk show looks fine, disks are assigned and in spare/pool0)

Problem:

After rebooting the node, the system throws errors during boot:

All local mailbox disks are inaccessible cloud database service is disabled ERROR: missing pmroot_late.tgz file

After that, the node does not come up cleanly.

Observations:

Disks are visible and assigned correctly Issue only appears after the initial setup + reboot Looks like a problem with mailbox/root initialization rather than missing disks

Question:

Has anyone experienced this with ONTAP Simulator 9.16.1?

Could this be a bug or known issue with this specific simulator version?

Any insights or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

we want to install /setup Ontap Simulator 9.16.1 on vsphere 8 for tests
we have checked the installation and setup Guide and vsphere is not in the supported app.

Do you know if there are any problems with vsphere? has anyone tried it?

I've played around quite a bit with the vSIM in my lab environment (running in a vSphere cluster).
All my tests were quite short-lived and limited in scope, though, since I have only very limited storage available.
I read here that the simulators behind the Hands-On-Labs use vSCSI disks instead of emulated disks, and I tried getting that working with a new vSIM instance by adding a SCSI-controller and some 30GB-Disks.
I could not get those disks to show up though, no matter which type of SCSI-controller I selected within VMware.
@SeanHatfield is there anything I have to do within the vSIM so the disks are recognized?

I am trying to clone the Configured NetApp Simulator on ESXi cluster multiple time to having same configuration to me, but showing me run database recovery error to after cloning. 

With all of the Vmware changes due to the new owners, are there any plans to make the NetApp simulator available for other virtualization platforms such as KVM, Proxmox, XCP-NG, etc.?

After rebooting the ONTAP VSIM 9.18.1 running on VMware Workstation Pro, the CPU utilization remains extremely high. How should this be resolved?

I've built a 9.15 cDOT simulator using legacy license keys for CDOT. The ESX keys I'm using(Clustered Data ONTAP Feature Licenses) are for serial numbers 4082367724 and 4034389062.

Node 1 in my cluster 4082368507. Since I just brought up the cluster, If I change SYS_SERIAL_NUM at the LOADER, will it crash the cluster's configuration?

I would like to create S3 buckets on 9.11.1 simulator. Currently S3 license is not available. What is the process to request S3 license?

Not sure that's the right forum because it might the support site problem, but there is no download link for the simulator (image attached). Tried my user and the customer's user.

And another question - what is the last version that is on the simulator? Can the simulator can be upgraded?

We have recently been awarded a tender to replace a customer's pair of mirrored CDOT appliances. While we await delivery of the new kit I'm wanting investigating the migration approach.

The customer's existing appliances are running CDOT 9.3P21 and I'd like to simulate a migration path in the time I have available. I'm aware of this post and that 9.3 is out of support. Could anyone assist me with a link to 9.3 simulator that I might validate the migration path?

From last 3 days I was waiting for to get the access, actually while downloading this it is giving me error as unauthorize access.

I need it to  use with VMWARE Workstation and analyse and understand it for my education purpose then I will make the article and research paper.

Does anyone still have the NetApp Data ONTAP 8.2.4P6 (7-Mode) image available?

I’ve got a NetApp FAS2220 that was completely wiped, and I can’t access the NetApp Support Site anymore since the unit is long out of support. I just need the original 8.2.4P6 .tgz installation image to reinstall the OS and get the system running again.

If someone still has a copy or knows a reliable source where I could get it, I’d really appreciate it.

I am configuring DNS as NetappA.lab and IP as 172.23.4.1.

Getting Error as Failed to verify the specified DNS configuration. 172.23.4.1: No route to host. Verify that the network configuration is correct and that DNS servers are available. Specify "-skip-config-validation" to skip the configuration validation.

Please check the png image (namespace_dns.png) and suggest.

Can a simulator for 9.17.1RC1 be posted?  We are looking to see if an issue we are facing is fixed 9.17.1, but are unable to update our production system without testing first.

We have configured CIFS and created share folder and paste some data.
Next day we lost the Data SVM Config, although Admin SVM is there.

would like to test Snapmirror Active Sync with Ontap Simulator with ASAr2 systems as the storage config is quite different (aggregates, LUNs & Volume commands are suppressed/replaced)
Would also like to check mediator setup for ASAr2

To my knowledge, simulator personnality has no option to be installed as ASAr2 (even though lab-on-demand has ASAr2 with Ontap simulator configured)
Any chance to have a procedure or a download link for ASAr2 Simulator?

My partner is working extensively with the Simulator and recently pointed out there are no licenses for the NVME protocols included in the latest version. It’s possible to get a temporary demo license but I wonder if anyone knows whether there’s a way to obtain permanent simulator licenses for NMVe/oF?

I need to upload a update image file into the NetApp Ontap simulator before we roll out the update in a production environment. From my understanding, first the disks must be extended to be able to have enough space to upload the update. I am looking for the correct way to accomplish this. 

Was wondering if it possible to get access to the ONTAP simulator if you are not a customer or partner with netapp? I created a guest account and every time I go to the page it tells me I have Unauthorized Access. 

I am currently working on my NCDA, If its not possible to get access do you guys have any other recommendations to try and set up a lab environment to test around with?

I´m making an active sync lab with the ONTAP simulator 9.15.1,  it´s a snapmirror symmetric active/active configuration

All the configurations are done following the NetApp documentation but when i start the replication the snapmirror relationship is shown as "Unhealthy" and the state "Not initialized",  although i initialize the relationship over and over the Unhealthy and Not initialize status persists.

The command snapmirror show -fields unhealthy-reason shows nothing but at some point in another attempt showed something about some "update" failure.

It´s there any limitations in the simulator that turns down this type of implementation? Has anyone already tried this implementation successfully?

I am attempting to setup two NetApp clusters with two nodes each using the 9.7 simulator and peer them to do SnapMirror. I get an error stating that I cannot peer two systems with the same UUID. I changed the second node serial number with the  setenv SYS_SERIAL_NUM 4034389-06-2 and setenv bootarg.nvram.sysid commands, but the license provided with the simulator only has two serial numbers I can use and I need four apparently.

Does anyone know how to get around this?
