How to backup StorageGRID itself

Hi All

I like StorageGRID and it seems to be a great product to implement object-store.

But how do we backup(archive?) the StorageGRID contents?

Does NetApp have products for backing up the S3 storage ( perhaps as Buckets, or whole accounts ).

Or, did anyone find great third-party products?

The OnTap volumes have snapshots and other cool features. Is there anything similar for StorageGRID?

Azure Marketplace Connector Problem

I'm trying to deploy a local Cloud Manager instance in the Azure Government space, using the Marketplace connector option. Since this is a restricted space we cannot use NetApp's hosted SaaS Cloud Manager. I'm at the point where you point a web browser to port 80 on the VM and I see the "Setup Cloud Manager" window but it just spins and I can't continue. Any way to figure out what's going wrong? Using netstat shows no failed connections.

Delete Fabricpool Object-Store

I am trying to delete a Fabricpool object-store by command.

cluster::*> storage aggregate object-store config delete -object-store-name abc

Error: command failed: Cannot delete object store configuration "abc" as there are objects in the store.

I can't access the object-store now since it is a trial and expired. How can I force storage to delete the record?

FAS2240 : Broken disks replaced by new ones do not go to spare disk pool

I have a FAS2240 with release 8.2.4P4 7-Mode with the following RAID DP configuration
1 disk parity
1 disk dparity
8 disks data
2 disks broken (0a.00.2 and 0a.00.4) => No more spare disks

I swapped the broken disks with new ones coming from another unused FAS2240 and ran the commands :

SnapLock set unspecified retention

With ONTAP 9.8 we have introduced the "unspecified" retention time for SnapLock. The API in ONTAP is already there, any plans to have that implemented in our Powershell toolkit like we have for the infinite retention time?

Something like this:

Hello Guy,

I would like to create connection between veritas EV connect with netapp svm mgmt lif.

We have veritas enterprise vault installed on windows server IP (10.4.130.35)

Netapp SVM mgmt lif (10.4.130.24)

It also same subnet.it does not have a firewall rule on security part.So,we have to use https connection between EV and SVM Mgmt lif becuase it is customer's compliance.

I am not sure do i need to config anything first.

Anyone help me to suggest to solve the issue?

When I run "storage aggregate show -aggregate * -fields encrypt-with-aggr-key,drive-protection-enabled" it lists the root aggregate for the SED disks as true for drive-protection-enabled and the data aggregates as false. Got myself in a pickle trying to work it out, then found the above bug. It could do with being tagged for 9.8P2 as well.

we are currently migrating our DCs from w2k8 to Windows Server 2019. We have installed 2 new servers and the corresponding roles and upgraded them to DCs. They should take over the IP addresses of the two existing w2k8 DCs or this is already the case with one of them.
Now the Netapp (Version 8.2.4P5 7-Mode) shows every now and then (or with cifs testdc) for the DC that has taken over the IP the message:
[Filer:cifs.smb2.client.signing:error]: Connection to server:\\DC02 failed due to mismatch in signature.
I have searched a lot but have not found a solution yet.

Fabric Pool mirror into CTS?

IHAC whose Fabric Pool term licence has expired. Because of imminent DC moves and company divestitures they don't wish to renew it. Also, the current data footprint is expected to reduce by 80% within 12 months due to a company split. They've 240TB FP licences currently in full use across two clusters.

Assuming they're on (or upgrade to) a suitable version of ONTAP, could they Fabric Pool mirror in the Cloud Tiering Service to take advantage of PAYG-style pricing on a monthly basis rather than fixed term one year commitment?

There is no "Cost" tab in Cloud Manager for CVO in Azure

In Cloud Manager, for CVO in AWS, you can find a "Cost" tab between "Volume" and "Replications" tabs, which show you the AWS Monthly Cost.

However, how do I find the same monthly cost for CVO in Azure? There seems no such tab or option.

How do I discover all possible return values for a given REST object?

My immediate need is to determine all the possible values returned in the "type" field for a GET /storage/volumes/{volume.uuid}/files/{path} call. I can see from the examples that 2 of the possible returned values are "file" and "directory", but what are the other values? I can't find any of this sort of information in the doc/api link on the cluster, nor can I find any relevant reference on the NetApp support site. Please advise as to how to obtain this level of detail.

I have a few older servers still using SnapManager rather than SnapCenter, and the critical security update that Microsoft released a few days ago (KB5001779) completely breaks SnapManager compatibility - backup jobs no longer run, and console reports "Unable to determine Exchange virtual server group status before SnapManager operation" straight upon opening. This is happening both in Exchange 2013 and Exchange 2019, same error. I have opened a case with support, but while I'm waiting for a response, has anyone else run into this, and is there a workaround?

Migration from Windows share to NetApp CIFS Share

There is NFS volume containing about 500 GB data, however, about 450GB data is being used by SnapShots due to a frequent changed/deleted data in a directory. I am thinking to separate this directory from NFS volume, and move it to the other NFS volume without having snapshot setting.

Does this solution make sense to you, any other better solution?

Ontap 9.7 Cluster, mixed versions, upgrade process question

Original cluster nodes are version 9.7p10 and I just added 2x nodes running 9.7p6 (went from 2x node switched cluster to 4x node cluster). I'm going to go through the cluster upgrade process to bring the new nodes up from p6 to p10, but will the nodes already running p10 undergo TO/GB just like the nodes being upgraded from p6 to p10? Or will ontap skip the upgrade process on the nodes already running p10?

Its kind of a stupid question but..

We are planning to replace our old NX5596 with 3132Q-V. There is a detailed document that explains the process and there is risk involved of things going south. We have multiple 40g ports available. I was wondering if it was in any way possible to setup another cluster network using these ports terminating on new switches? Once everything gets cabled and reachable we remove the old cluster switches. This will enable us to avoid the interim ISL between NX5596 and 3132Q-V.

Is it possible to hook a tape drive up to a FAS2620?

We are currently playing with ideas for how we want to do backups going forward. Currently we have a server that runs Netvault that does NDMP from the NetApp to tape. However reading the Ontap docs leads me to believe that it is possible for the NetApp to talk directly to a library, no server needed. I'm interested in that, but can't seem to find any information on it. So what I'm wondering is if this is something that can be done or not with our setup?

We have a FAS2620 that hooks up to to a 212C disk shelf. All 4 SAS ports on the host are used to do the redundant hookup to the shelf. So would we be able to hook a tape drive up to the shelf and just have it as part of the SAS loop? If so, is there a way to find out what tape libraries are supported?

Finally, is this a terrible idea? 🙂

Intercluster traffic using specific interfaces

We have a source a a destination cluster. Both clusters have a single intercluster lif for each node as of now. They have existing cluster peers with some other existing clusters. We want to setup cluster peer between these two but we want to use new interfaces. We have a stretched L2 connectivity between the two and we want to utilize that. What would be the best approach to make sure that intercluster traffic between the two goes through the new lifs that we create and does not use the existing lifs. Both can reach each other on existing lifs as well.

the problem:

the prior environment, we created a cifs share with two windows 2008 R2 active directory.

according to the customer request, I was created two new windows 2008 R2 host. and adding to active directory

but the from the netapp GUI interface , for domain controler display , i can see three active directory. it's not four

active directroy

from the command line, check the domain info:

but after about ten minutes , will be show the following picture, at the domain directory item, all of the active directory is disappear. during the cifs service is unavailable also.

so what's wrong for the NETAPP storage ?

Interface negotiation problem

my company is using NetApp Release 9.7P6 and we have a problem negotiating one of the interfaces. All interfaces are negotiating at 1000M but one in particular is negotiating at 100M. We have tried to force the speed to 1000 both in the netapp and in the switch but in that case the interface does not go to UP state, any suggestions?

ONTAP 9.8 simulator "LDAP not configured" even though ldap checks pass

We are relatively new to netapp on tap and have been trying to configure LDAP (FreeIPA LDAP) on the ONTAP 9.8 simulator to allow LDAP users to login to the admin ssh. So far we have followed this documentation to create the client config and associate it with the cluster server, adding the addition auth methods to the ns-switch configuration, and adding the user to the security login configuration with the ldap application and nsswitch auth method.

running the access-check it certainly appears that it can query for the user and get the correct response (verified with ldapsearch on the ldap server).

Looking for some help with the Verification of MS SQL AOAG database members. I have a simple AOAG setup across 2 SQL Servers for DB1.

I want to offload CheckDB to an offline server on a remote site so the assigned policy Schedule snapmirrors the data and log volumes etc. to the second site and the remote serve is selected as the verification server.

What I am seeing is that the Database from the Primary node always fails verification as an NTFS storage snapshot cannot be created, the other database from the secondary node is completed ok on the same server. I have proven this by failing over the AOAG and re-running the Snapcenter Job., with the primary always failing.

The fix seems to be to specify the Tablock option on the verification tab of the SnapCenter Policy. This allows both the Primary and Secondary Database files to complete Checkdb on the remote server successfully.

I have also found that if I clone the primary DB and mount on a remote server that I can execute CheckDB from SQL manually with no issues.

Therefore, can anyone confirm if this issue with checking a Primary AOAG Database is to be expected and that Tablock should always be specified for an AOAG database when verify remotely?

Or suggest if I am missing something in my setup. Note file/folder permissions have all been checked and verified, and SQL servers are same version etc

Finally does anyone know what snapcenter skips (other than the NTFS snapshot) when the Tablock option is selected?

2. how can we find out if vscan servers too busy and more servers need to be added?

3. if any VSCAN servers or connections issues, will we get alerts or notitcations?

4. is there any VSCAN information integrated with active IQ?

5. happened a few times already, we had cifs share access issues, had to stop vscan services to regain the access.

we plan to set -vscan-fileop to writes-only, and add excluvise list, are they good ideas?

6. what is the regular vscan daily monitoring?

I inherited a bit of a mess and have been trying to get a network up to date from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2019. I got to the NetApp server today and removed the current domain controller from the CFIS configuration and add all the new information for the new domain contorller. Once I tried to join it to the domain I get success but it fails and states it is have a LSA issue. Tried enabling SMBv1 to see if that would rectify the problem and it didn't. I then checked the SMB configuration on the NetApp and this is what it spit out at me:

ActiveIQ Unified Manager Volume Total Space - Where Is It?

I am trying to create what I assume should be an extremely simple view in ActiveIQ Unified Manager - a list of every volume with a column showing the current volume sizes. My intent is to browse through and look for volume with odd sizes, which indicates autogrow has kicked in, so I can manually inspect and possibly resize / reconfigure them.

I added the "Total Data Capacity" field. For most volumes this field shows full volume size, but for extremely tiny volumes that are 1GB (mostly root volumes) it shows Total Data Capacity of 973 MB instead of 1GB. When looking in System Manager, it shows correctly as 1GB. I spent a long time thinking the whole list was invalid until I scrolled down and saw that the rest were fine. Is this a bug/glitch in AIUM or am I missing something?

We realized that we are not able to connect to one of the the 2 Controllers with a Windows Client on a FAS2240-2 / NetApp Release 8.2.5P3 7-Mode . Checking the connection via port 445 showed that 445 on controller one is not open, even if the CIFS configuration was performed with success.

Is there a way to check open Ports and also a way to open them if needed ?

We have NetApp Release 8.2.5P3 7-Mode and we cannot get the CIFS management using the "Connect to another computer" from the Server Manager (MMC) of a Windows 2016 or 2019 Server. It doesn't work to the first controller, connection to the second works fine. Both are configured exactly the same way, users etc.

Can anyone tell us the "prerequisites" that needs to fit to connect, we don't know further where to check on the NetApp.

Need some help/suggestions setting up OnTap S3

We have licensing for OnTap S3. We have 2 clusters (both running 9.8P2 and both consisting of 2 x AFF8040s and 2 x FAS8200s). I have been told that we can tier cold data from the AFF nodes to the FAS nodes and was directed to https://docs.netapp.com/ontap-9/topic/com.netapp.doc.pow-s3-cg/S3%20configuration.pdf and https://www.netapp.com/pdf.html?item=/media/17219-tr4814pdf.pdf

We only have one SVM on each cluster. The configuration guide in the first link above says that a new SVM isn't needed, but "you might choose to create a new SVM if one of the following is true: You are enabling S3 on a cluster for the first time". Given we are enabling S3 for the first time, should we really make a new SVM for it?

For the features that we want to use, is a dedicated LIF needed? If not and we can/decide to use the same SVM, we just need to do the following?
Create a certificate request and sign it by a CA

Go to Storage VMs, click on out existing SVM, click on the gear icon in the S3 section

Give the server a name

Paste the cert and private key

Select "Use the same network interface that is already configured for the SMB/CIFS and NFS protocols" and then pick an interface.

Create a bucket and tier to it?

Another thing we do want to do is to tier snapshots to an AWS instance so that we have them far away from us. Do we then need a Amazon S3 or Cloud Tiering Service license? Given that goal plus the potential of using other S3 features locally, would we be hindering ourselves by adding S3 to an existing interface as mentioned above (and we really should just create a dedicated interface for S3)?

Fas2040 Broken Disk

I recently aquired a FAS2040 Dual controller, i have just about managed to get it all configured, with one exception, I want all the storage to be on one controller, with the other purely as failover only, currently only have the main unit with 12 disks.

When setting up the secondary controller it took 3 disks for the root volume, where i only wanted it to have 2 (RAID4), i reconfigured the aggr0 (root vol) for raid 4 and it released a disk from the aggr, but left it owned by the secondary controller. This is where i think i did the wrong thing. i used the disk remove command trying to release the ownership on the spare disk, so i can allocate it to the primary controller, except it marked the disk as broken. I know forwell the disk isnt broken as it was fine prior to the disk remove command. How can i revive this disk so i can reuse it?

I have tried reseating it and it came back in the same state.

I see today that the job where 4 datastore were backuped need 30 minutes that is finish.

is this normal? snapshot of datastore is finish in few second when i look at netapp volumes.

I was thinking the job is finish in max 10 minutes. but i check the logs all job are so slow.

Can I have an MetroCluster IP using AFF (like A400 or A800) with active-passive cluster, I mean, one cluster has all pool0 disks and the other cluster has all pool1 disks?

When I tried to do that on Fusion, I can´t change aggregate configuration, so it seems to me that I can´t have active-passive cluster using MCC IP and AFF.

Is there any specific user guide to configure NDMP with veritas netbackup 8.3. I have already gone through all sort of documentation on netapp. Can some one answer my below questions.

We have AFF400 for which i have LACP 2 ports (e0f/e0h as a0b) which are of 10Gb each and created separate broadcast domain. Does LACP works on the NDMP backup with veritas?

1. I have currently tapes drives configured with Hitachi NAS now, can we use the same tape drives to configure NDMP on netapp. Will there be any issues or errors with current tape drives which is working fine on HNAS?

If so how exactly the zoning should be done ( Tape Drives and Netapp ports zoning since i use LACP can i add both the ports on each node and make one zone per node). Is this the correct way ?

2. Is it mandatory to create intercluster LIF's?

3. LIF assigned should be in the same IP range as the backup network?

4. Any requirement that we should use Accelerator for NDMP from Netbackup ?

We have a few FAS8200s that are using HPE 3PAR for storage, by default the volumes on the 3PAR are thin provisioned to the FAS8200s.

Is ONTAP friendly towards thin volumes provisioned to it from 3rd party arrays ? So if data is deleted on a filer volume will it perform the equivalent of an unmap command to let the array know that blocks can be reclaimed ?

Or is there a way to write zeros to the freespace on a volume/aggregate so that the storage array can claim back space and make the volume thinner ?

Disk leveling and RAID theory

FYI, this took place 7 years ago. I'm writing a summary about a client's experience and I'm looking for information on disk leveling processes in ONTAP 7 & 7-mode, specifically what on the back end levels out the disks after more shelves are added. They added 1 shelf with 24 disks to an existing 2 shelves with 48 disks and the system was never leveled out, causing a performance imbalance.

Also I'm looking for a document or white paper on basic RAID theory about how an array (any array) works. I need to be able to cite it for another paper I'm writing. I attended a talk on this subject at Insight around 10 years ago, back when it was still at the MGM Grand. I believe it was the year the customer appreciation night was at Cirque du Soleil.

In powershell what is a good way to test to see if a clone split is complete?

Hello, I have been trying to find a way to test if a clone split is complete. I know Get-NcCloneSplitStatus gives me information but throws an error after the clone is complete. I looked at the volume fields on the cli and there is field called clone-volume, but could not find the corresponding PS attribute. I ended up doing something like below but wanted to know if there is a better way code wise to test to see if the clone split was done.

Mounting ONTAP bucket using s3fs

I am now trying to mount it in a Linux server using s3fs. It doesn't work. I tried different parameters and nothing. I see no error logs in the ONTAP side, but in Linux side I have the errors below.

Alert SPARES_LOW after media error threshold but no disk in broken list

Hi,

tonight one of our FAS (2554 20x4TB + 4x400GB SSD) send us an alert for SPARES_LOW.

Investigating we found that a disk (0b.00.13) had a lot of media error until the threshold, so ONTAP (9.3) started the copy/recovery to spare disk 0b.00.17.

Investigating more in deep we found that no disk are marked as broken and, probably, only a partition (data) of disk 13 was "failed and copied to disk 17:

So, disk 13 is not failed but still in RAID, disk 17 is still spare but only for root partition, and no disk is "broken".

But almost every 2 minutes we see in the events: raid.shared.disk.exchange for disk 13.

Probably the support will send us a new disk for swap with disk 13, but how to mark failed before to extra from shelf?

Simple try to build a Cloud Manager connector in GCP fails half way after creating a deployment in GCP, boot disk and then when trying to label the disk it fails leaving open deployment and disk behind. The error message in GCP activity after successful creation of boot disk is:

Isilon Data Collector - Cloud Insight

In CI, when data collector is NetApp array, I collect performance data by querying on "Internal Volumes" for NAS.

For SAN Volumes I use category - "Volume".

In case of Isilon I do get list of shares when I query Shares but when I query "Internal volumes" I don't get Volume names on which those shares reside, I just get one line entry (that is probably isilon namespace).

Any insights/suggestions, please let me know. I think in case of Isilon may be I have to capture Volume names using different query category?

I've checked them and I can see that vservers management LIFs are added there. For me it's clear that SC plugin for Windows done that change - but can someone confirm if this is normal behavior and also observed such thing?

While monitoring our syslog, I am seeing this message:

It appears that the Netapp is trying to ping an IP for one of its clusters but it is headed out its management network to attempt this. The Management switch blocks this as that IP is no beyond its ACL boundary.

I'm not sure if there is any issue at all. IT just appears to be some strange anomaly that repeats every 3 minutes.

Cluster upgrade sequence

Hello, I have a netapp metro cluster that looks like the one below. If I were to upgrade the Ontap version from 9.6x to 9.7x but by using the "cluster image update -pause-after all" option.

Will the upgrade pick the nodes in the sequence as per the HA setup? .. example, will it pick netapp01-01 first and then go to netapp01-02 and then go to netapp01-03 and then finally to netapp01-04?

Will this always be the sequence? Would it be possible to control this sequence so we don't unknowingly upgrade node that has workload on it.

If I were to move the workload manually between the nodes once two nodes are upgraded. So the customer can face minimal impact at all. Kindly advice.

Need to re-IP management ports of an FAS2750

Hello everyone,

I've inherited an FAS2750. The management ports of the nodes and the cluster are on the 192.168.0 network. I want to move everything off that network and onto another so I need to learn how to identify the MAC address of each node and how to re-IP each node and the cluster. Also, can I do this without data loss? The unit hosts VMware VMs using an iSCSI connection to the hosts. These connections are on a different subnet which I don't need to change.

Does ABE support widelinks?

we just testing widelinks in conjunction wit abe enable shares. As soon we enable ABE, the access to widelink relocate does not work anymore. Error "Windows cannot access \\blabla\bla.
Has anybody sucessful implemented widelink with ABE enabled shares?

"The network password is not correct" for cifs mount domain users in separate Windows domain

We are migrating things from Solaris zfs and samba 3.6 to cifs on a NetApp with Ontap9.7. One of those things is a share which is its own mount point, using mixed security (unix-based for access in RHEL machines). We have it configured for NFS and CIFS.

What's happening is that we have two Windows domains, which are not allowed to have any kind of trust between them. We create a user account in linux, and the two domains, using the same username for all three places. Domain 1 and the unix-ish systems speak to each other through Domain1's Server 2012r2 domain controllers. Domain2's systems used to have guest/anonymous access to read and execute this share before it moved, but now users are getting "The network password is not correct" errors on group policy applying the script that's supposed to fire on every logon and logoff event. My domain accounts work perfectly fine, because we have domain admin accounts mapped to root, but regular users are getting this password error.

I've verified domain1's DCs are configured using "vserver cifs domain discovered-servers show", and the two DCs in the domain are listed as "slow" and "OK" for MS-DC, and "undetermined" for MS-LDAP and KERBEROS. I think what is happening is that the user logs on to their machine in domain2, and the Ontap cifs options try to apply domain1's user account to that username. Since most of these users rarely, if ever, use their domain1 user account, there should be a much greater than average chance their username and passwords are separate for both domains.

So, how do I get this configured so that domain2 users can run the logon script on the NetApp share? I saw some KB stuff about null-session clients, but does that apply here? My attempt to configure a null-session user mapping does not seem to have changed anything. I also know there is a default UNIX group and a guest account option, neither of which is currently configured on our filer.

Replacing hard drive with a different model

I have a NetApp FAS3250 with a DS2246 shelf. The hard drives in the shelf are using Seagate 10K 6GB SAS (Model # X417A-R6). One of the hard drives have failed. I have spare (unused) FAS2650 that have Seagate 10K 12GB SAS (Model # x341A-R6).

Can I replace the defective hard drive with a known good one from the FAS2650. The working one is a 12GB SAS and the defective one is 6GB SAS. The firmware versions will probably be different as well.

Using PSTK 9.8 (and this was the same in 9.6) running Get-NcVolumeEncryption gives an error back to say it is unable to find the API, does anyone else have this issue? Trying to find a way of getting the encryption type of a volume, so volume or aggregate. I can get whether or not a volume is encrypted but I am wanting to know the type.

Other cmdlets work fine, just this one, I had read on a previous community post this API might have been revoked a while back but this doesn't make sure to have not been reintroduced.

Windows 10 Clients UNABLE to search CIFS

Hi All -

I've read a large number of the threads out here in detail. We are running 9.4P3 on our system and are hosting several MASSIVE shares with multiple millions of files and folders.

We moved the data off a NetApp to a Windows box back in 2014 and then back to a new NetApp in 2018. I do not see any attributes on the files saying they are indexed or other obvious issues.

What we are seeing is that files are not searchable. I'm not talking about not indexed (I don't believe that is supported still) as in they don't show up EVER in the search results, and the results instantly return what *appear* to be indexed results from before this content was moved to the NetApp in '18.

Has anyone else run into this? Does anyone have a way to fix this? I've tried disabling Windows Search service on test machines and several other things, but nothing I've tried seems to be fixing this issue. We have to be able to search these shares, and we have users complaining for good reason.

I did see the third party plugin that is for sale that allows indexing on the NetApp but we aren't going to spend $250K+ on a plugin to index the contents.

Upgrade FAS2520 8.2.3 7-Mode to Latest V9

Hi, We have a FAS2520 running Data ONTAP 8.2.3 7-Mode. We're looking to upgrade this to the latest V9 that this will support. We have an active support contract so can download all versions.

I am a little puzzled though to the upgrade path - NetApp docs (I am reading https://docs.netapp.com/ontap-9/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.netapp.doc.exp-dot-upgrade%2FGUID-AC0EB781-583F-4C90-A4C4-BC7B14CEFD39.html) suggest it should go 8.2.3 to 8.3, and then 8.3 to 9 or 9.1.

However, I can't find a download for 8.3, only 8.2.5 is showing in the downloads section.

Should also be noted this is re-using an older system for archiving purposes only, so has no data on it. The upgrade can be fully destructive. Based on this, is it possible to simply backup the 8.2.3 currently installed OS and do a complete fresh install of the latest 9.x release, without attempting an upgrade?

Also, does anyone know what 9.x version is best to run on the FAS2520?

Hello community,

we have problems with disconnections ("unexpected network error" - often after 90 minutes) with volumes attached to Citrix servers (and only with Citrix). While searching for a solution I came across the parameter "max-mpx" for CIFS multiplex settings - for the affected SVM this is currently set to 255.

In the past, "cifs stat" could be used to determine what values were actually being used though and it looked like (Example!): "Max Multiplex = 459, Max pBlk Exhaust = 0, Max pBlk Reserve Exhaust = 0".

Where can I find this value under Ontap 9.7? When I collect values with " statistics start -object cifs ... " I don't find it there for example.

Any idea?

we have number of customers where we have only 1 ESXi host with 4-5 VMs on top of it. From time to time it is hard to migrate data from one to another host, no snapshot capabilities etc etc. Idea is to use ONTAP Select like this:

so I would like to get opinions from people with more experience with this type of deployment? We usually deploy with 8c processor here like 4208 from Intel and as far as cores we do mostly 2:1 on thread. What is recommended number of vCPU, vRAM for cca 1Tb space?

Snapmirror Resync behavior

We are currently using SVM-DR to replicate data in our environment. I notice every time when we run snapmirror resync, storage efficiency is re-enabled on all target volumes even if storage efficiency is disabled manually before the resync. This is causing SE process on target volumes to start after each snapmirror update and eventually SE will error out before next the snapmirror update. EMS log also fills up with the same error repeatedly. Has anyone experiencing this issue in their environment ?

Red Hat 7/8 clients authenticating against Active Directory, but access to CIFS data is denied

IHAC that has a CIFS volume (NTFS security style) and would like to make this volume available to Red Hat 7 and 8 clients. Linux clients currently authenticate against Active Directory. The export policy has been configured to let all hosts mount. CIFS share and volume permissions - Everyone/Full Control

The RH client has mounted the export and export-policy check-access passed:

Name mapping seems to be OK by shortname:

But seems to be a bit off when specifying Domain\account:

How should I be thinking about this? I'm not clear on how this architecture should be.

How should RedHat clients access NTFS volumes via nfs when the usernames are managed by AD? Since RH clients auth against AD, I don't see how username mapping should come into play, but if the name maps back to itself, shouldn't that work?
