Active IQ now has unified Digital Advisor and Discovery Dashboard watchlists

Active IQ now has unified Digital Advisor and Discovery Dashboard watchlists

You may have noticed a new look and feel to Active IQ this morning. Previously Digital Advisor custom dashboards and Discovery Dashboard watchlists were two separate things that couldn’t be mixed or shared between DA and DD. As of this morning, they are now unified. This allows you to create and maintain your watchlists in one place.

There are, however, a few important things to note about this:

If you had a default Discovery Dashboard watchlist and did not have a default Digital Advisor custom dashboard, you’ll notice that your default DD watchlist is now your default in DA also. If you want to change this, click on the word “Watchlists” on the left navigation menu where you’ll see that you can change this with the stars on the left (see screenshot below).

Discovery Dashboard has a lot more options for creating interesting watchlists. Some of those are not yet supported in Digital Advisor: Sales Rep, Partner, and Location (Region and Sales District). Digital Advisor supports Customer, Site, Group, and Serial Number. On the watchlist screen, you’ll see which one you can open each in (see screenshot below).

Since Discovery Dashboard is for pre-sales, NetApp and partners have access to it. Customers can only use Digital Advisor. This is not a change, but a reminder. Partners are also going to see this integration, but customers will only see a new look on the left side and new watchlist dialogs

Brett Albertson

Principal Technical Marketing Engineer

<LI-USER uid="90571"></LI-USER> - I really don't think you want to mess with Graphite on Debian 10 when the Harvest appliance is the way NetApp is going.

Graphite has IMO fallen way out of favor in recent years, and in fact graphite-carbon is so broken out of the box on Ubuntu 20.04 that it won't even start, yet nobody cares. Shows how little it is used anymore.

If you absolutely want to run your own graphite services, I'd suggest using the official Graphite container so that you can dispense with all of the distro-specific woes you might run into.

Honestly I find it easier to use nabox. https://nabox.org/

If you're gonna use Harvest, I'd set that up. It makes it so much easier!

YEs I'll now. Watched the Video.

But only in our TEST-env. Because it is an OVA. And this is not supported in our PROD environment.

So, still waiting for the upgrade.

That would be great.

Is Graphite then still needed (with another DB)?

And I was facing some issues with Graphite.

Harvest 2.0 will make this much easier with a more modular architecture. Prometheus will be the primary TSDB I believe but you will be able to write plugin for other backends.

Haven't gone down the path yet with NetApp Harvester but wanted to mention that it might be nice for NetApp to look at moving toward InfluxDB in some future release of Harvester since Graphite seems to be falling out of favor as dated tech. I ended up dropping Graphite when Ubuntu started shipping LTS that packaged broken-out-of-the-box versions of graphite/graphite-carbon and nobody noticed for months (sending a signal that it's really falling by the wayside IMO).

I'll probably try my luck with using the graphite receiver service on InfluxDB and see if the harvester data comes in OK.

I realize that this is an old thread, but your script has been working fantastic. we Just updated to ONTAP 9.7p4, and the document creates, but will not insert the labels for all the icons. The powershell script is showing all the proper names when running, just not placing them on the icons in the Viso (2010) document as it had in the past.

Do you have any thoughts as to why this has stopped working?

Thank you for any help you provide.

NetApp Extends Certification Expiration Dates by 6 Months

As the world responds to the COVID-19 pandemic, our top priority is supporting our employees, partners, and customers who are faced daily with new challenges. NetApp University is extending the expiration date for all certifications set to expire in the year 2020 (January 1 to December 31, 2020) by 6 months (180 days). The extension will automatically be applied to your CertMetrics account which you can view/access through CertCenter. This does not require any action on your part.

For example, if your certification expired in February 2020, that certification status will no longer show as expired and you have been granted until July 2020 to re-up your credential. If you have a certification that is set to expire on December 31, 2020, the new expiration date will be set to April 2021.

NetApp University has partnered with PearsonVUE to make remote testing through OnVUE available so that our users are able to take their certification exams from their home or office locations using a remote proctor.

We hope that this will help you on your certification journey during this challenging time! Please take advantage of our full portfolio of free online training as you prepare to successfully take your certification exams. You can find more information on NetApp certifications, including recommended preparation, on the NetApp University Certification page.

When will the new site be launched?
The new site will be live in a couple of months. The specific date hasn't been determined yet.

What will be different in the new site?
We are redesigning the site to provide our customers with an efficient and improved knowledge base. To enhance the findability of articles, we have made our database lean by retaining only the most used and most relevant content.

Does this mean that some of the old content may not be available in the new database?
Yes, there is a possibility that you might not find some of the old or less-frequently used content in the database.

How did you determine what content to make available in the new database?
Based on our site usage data and recommendation from our experts, we are moving only our top-valued and top-rated articles into our new database.

I have got the board of same part no but printenv command out put shows system model: V3220 with Bios version 5.3.0 and boot loader version3.6.

Can I use this mother board as replacement. Plz suggest. After replacement of board what other things need to be done for proper configuration.

Re: How to use the RBAC User Creator for Data ONTAP

Please note that the RBAC User Creator tool (Windows executable) and ONTAP privileges file (XML) are posted on the NetApp Support site in the ToolChest for download:

https://mysupport.netapp.com/tools/download/ECMLP2434785DT.html?productID=61965&pcfContentID=ECMLP2434785

As <LI-USER uid="59052" login="jmcrosa"></LI-USER> said, the existing 7.X roles work properly with the 9.6 release. I am working to update the XML file to add 9.6 as a named release with no other changes.

The full set of privileges are described in this KB article:

https://kb.netapp.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1001058

We are also working to replace this tool with functionality within ONTAP System Manager. It should be supported by the next Virtual Appliance release together with ONTAP 9.7 or later.

Hi,

which specific roles are required for VSC 9.6? Is there a new XML file? The current download of the RBAC User Creator Tools contains only the roles for VSC 7 - or has nothing changed?

Hi Mike,

I had exactly the same issue. I managed to get around it by splitting the Pack.

1. Just use 7-Zip to extract the dar File to a Folder.

2. Copy all of the Folder toolkit to the appropriate destinations Paths on the WFA Host C:\Program Files\NetApp\WFA\PoSH\ and C:\Program Files\NetApp\WFA\Perl.

3. Remove the Folder toolkit from the extracted Zip

4. Rezip the Content (make sure that the root of the ZIP contains the xml-Files and the Folders workflow-help and META-INF)

5. Rename the zip-File to .dar

6. Install the dar File via the WFA Gui

I hope this fixes your issue.

Greetings Alex

Hello Rajesh,

I attended Insight last week and it was a very informative conference. There are several sessions that I would like to review. Do you know if the slides will be posted somewhere or how someone would get them?

Thanks,

I'm super new to NetApp appliances and am working through the cluster worksheet. I'm familiar with Hitachi arrays and so clustering and storage all makes sense to me. However, as I said, NetApp is new to me. Is there a handy "hey, here's what this means and why it's important?" document somewhere I can look at?

Hello,

After upgrading to 5.0.2, I'm unable to import the WFA pack for managinf Clustered Data ONTAP 9.6.0 (wfa-cdot-9.6.0-5301227.dar)

I get the following error:

Failed to copy toolkits. Retry operation after making sure there are no workflows in execution.

There are no workflows running, I've cleaned all reservations, rebstarted services, rebooted the WFA server. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

How to force vCenter to reload VSC/VASA GUI flash data for vSphere Web Client

<LI-VIDEO vid="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfGyqOQPsZ8" align="center" size="large" width="600" height="338" uploading="false" thumbnail="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/cfGyqOQPsZ8/hqdefault.jpg" external="url"></LI-VIDEO>

When Virtual Storage Console (VSC) and VASA Provider are registered to vCenter, UI (user interface) extensions are pulled to vSphere. These UI extensions represent the framework that VSC and VASA Provider use to display data.

When new versions of VSC or VASA Provider are released they may be bundled with new UI extensions. During the upgrade process, VSC does not have the ability to delete the old UI extensions off of the vCenter server. These files must be removed manually. If old UI extensions are not removed then a conflict may arise which can cause display issues with the plugin.

During a upgrade of VSC or VASA Provider, it is highly recommended that the old UI extensions be removed.

I know this is a really old thread now but for anyone still following...there are PowerShell CmdLets available for working with listing\closing CIFS files instead of using the CLI. See the help documentation for the following cmdlets:

Import-Module DataONTAP
Get-Help Get-NcCifsSessionFile -Full
Get-Help Close-NcCifsSessionFile -Full

Here is an "example" of a WFA command to close a CIFS file.

Note: If using the code below, note that the file UNC Path IS Case Sensitive from an ONTAP perspective but NOT from a Windows perspective

Param(
[Parameter(Mandatory=$True, HelpMessage="The UNC Path of the file to close. The UNC Path must be enclosed in double quotes")]

I am having trouble getting all dashboards working. Only 'Node' and 'SVM' dashboards are populating data in Graffana. Other cDOT dashboards are not working. My environment is of a cluster running 9.4P3 with Netapp-harvest, Graphite and Graffana configured on CentOS 7. I see the data is being captured in Graphite browser. But dashboards such as Network LIF, Volume, etc. are not getting populated. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

So now that I am able to monitor a SVM successfully, I have run into a new problem - REPORTS

I navigate to the SVM and in the lower left there are links to Reports such as FlexCone Storage Savings, Volume Utilization, Storage IOPS/Latency, etc.

However, when I click on the links it opens a new browser window with the following error:

Error 404--Not Found

Error 404--Not Found

From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:

10.4.5 404 Not Found

The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.

If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.

I reached out to Oracle on the issue and since it is a NetApp plug-in they offered only a re-direct to NetApp Community for help.

there is where you migrate all over and reboot from the new luns:

migrate/snapmirror the volumes with 7MTT.

extend the iSCSI VLANs in CDOT

create the two new iSCSI lifs in CDOT

create the full igroup, target and luns

initiate a discovery from the host

do the final sync/break snapmirror and then turn off the IPs from 7mode

appreciate your quick response.

is it "/var/lib/carbon/whisper". it has three sub-directories

# ls
carbon netapp test

and each sub directories have so many sub directories under which i see one "wsp" file per metric. should all three be copied/replaced on new server? or only the files with "wsp" extension.

I will give it a try when my new server is ready with all components installed and let you know.

Yes, it's actually pretty easy.

Graphite maintains historical data in a directory structure made of flat files, one per metric. All you have to do is copy this directory to another server. It's usually located in /opt/graphite/storage/whisper but might be somewhere else. It's usually called "whisper" though.

has anyone done that before ? kindly respond.

Re: NetApp OneCollect: The tool for easy, consolidated diagnostic data collection

Hello,

as far as I can see even with the current version 1.5 of OneCollect you can't collect perfarchives (aka Counter Manager data) from FAS-systems (be it 7-Mode or cDOT).

Is this feature still on the roadmap?

For some customers it simply is not allowed to connect their systems to ActiveIQ to get the fancy performance graphs.

And I can't use OCUM to get performance data since it does not support 7-Mode systems.

And Perfstats are also quite an effort if you for example want a week of data. The output gets really huge and the processing afterwards also takes some time.

Currently in these situations I always have to the mount the correct etc-path and then collect the Performance Archiver files manually which is quite the effort.

Would be awesome if you could tell OneCollect to download the perfarchives from say the latest X hours/days.

Then you could use CMPG to produce some performance graphs.

best regards

Oli

Is this behaviour expected? Can we somehow modify these settings?
