Snapcenter Agent Comms when running on VM guests

Hopefully a simple questions for the SC Gurus out there

We have SC and the SC Vsphere plugin (both v4.4) and plan to start backing up MS SQL dBs on the Vm guests using SC. normally when we do this for physical SQL servers the agents on the SQL server need to be able to communicate direct to the relevant Storage SVM to orchestrate the snapshots/snapmirrors etc.

As I understand it when the Server is a VM the snapshot is orchestrated via the Vsphere plug-in host and not the SC agent on the host so is the comms path from the Agent to the SVM hosting the VMDK files/VMFS volumes still required?

I assume the storage discovery is undertaken via the Vssphere plug-in and not direct from the Agents on the hosts?

Any confirmation or pointers to documentation that explains the steps SC uses for VM guest backup would be good and save a lot of trial and error/additional work

setting as below, but SnapVault did not auto delete old snapshot refer retention count

- primary storage vol1 with LUN did not setup snapshot schedule copy

- SnapCenter create Policy hourly and "Total Snapshot copies to keep" 3, Secondary policy label Select Customer Label "hourly", select "Update SnapVault after creating a local Snapshot copy"
- SnapCenter create Windows host Resource Group, select "Use custom name format for Snapshot copy" $Policy
- secondary storage create Protection policy name svtest with Asyn Vault, SnapMirror label "hourly" and Destination Retention Count 3
- seconday storage create volume relationship, Relationship Type Vault, Vault Policy select svtest, Schedule None
- SnapCenter primary snapshot backup and snapshot transfer to secondary successful

but secondary storage did not keep retention to 3, it did not auto delete old backup snapshot, is normal? How can setup auto delete the old backup snapshot?

Snapcentre and Oracle Standby Databases

We are trying to create a backup of an Oracle Dataguard Standby database with Snapcentre 4.4. When we create the offline schedule with 'Shutdown' mode when we run it it throws this message:

Activity 'Discovering Oracle Database Files' failed with error: Discovery failed for object MYDB with error PL-SCO-20006: Discovery of database files failed for database MYDB on host myhost with error PL-SCO-20035: OFFLINESHUTDOWN DATA backup is not supported for Data Guard standby database.. Activity 'Finalizing Oracle Database Backup' failed with error: PostBackupActivity failedPL-SCO-20032: postBackup operation failed with error: PL-SCO-20035: OFFLINESHUTDOWN DATA backup is not supported for Data Guard standby database.

The guide for Snapcentre 4.4 states:

Oracle Data Guard standby

You can create only offline (mount or shutdown) backups of Data Guard standby databases. Archive log-only backup or full backup is not supported.

So why would this not work? I did see this KB and tried the steps but same error.

I have a question about the configuration of snapcenter plugin for vmware vsphere; If I configure the policy options 'Update snapvault after backup' and the 'snapmirror label' Am I still required to configure the snapshot policy and snapmirror policy via Ontap?

We have 2 SnapCenters. 1 was an older version of Snap Manager/VSC, migrated to data broker appliance and then upgraded to 4.4 SnapCenter appliance. This has all our VMware vCenter metadata.

We've built a Physical Windows SnapCenter, which will be upgraded from 4.3 to 4.4 with physical SQL server database backup jobs.

We want to merge two together e.g. move the 4.4 SnapCenter appliance onto the Physical Windows SnapCenter.

We want to be able to manage jobs from 1 SnapCenter. We have created SQL database backup jobs for physical SQL servers, we want to use with VM's with SQL databases.

Is this possible?

SnapCenter 4.4 - Issue with Cloning, Custom Plug-in for MySQL Server

We're backing up a MySQL database on iscsi storage (on Ontap 9.7) via SnapCenter 4.4 using the Custom Plugin for MySQL 2.0.
This seems to work great, but when we try to clone via SnapCenter we get stuck on:

If you look on the host right before it fails you can see that the LUNS are visible via sanlun lun show.
If we take a look at the BuildHostStackCloneInput json file, fsMetadataInfo=>"path"=>deviceInfo=>uuid = null. Wich explains why the error happens. If we, for testing purposes, edit the FSMetadataBuilder.pm file to use "" instead of null the clone works, but we don't want to edit those files ofcourse.

We have no idea why that value is null to begin with, we've tried on both SLES and Oracle Linux, same result.

Does anybody have any ideas?

SnapCenter ps script to list all "suspended hosts" and resources "scheduled on hold"

Based on SnapCenter 4.3.0 i'd like to have a ps script

determine all resources (order by plugin-type) where its schedule is actually on hold
and all Hosts which are actually either suspended or down.

I'm new to powershell and do not now how to do this based on the available cmdlet's.

Can someone please help?

SnapCenter Role With Minimum Privileges

Hello,

I need some insight into the best way to lock down the local SnapCenter account on a NetApp cluster. The following articles outline several steps, however the role they outline includes cluster and vserver commands. I don't believe those commands work in an SVM context. The account we have right now resides in SVMs that contain datastores and iSCSI LUNs, all backed up by SnapCenter.

In summary: I want to assign the limited rights recommended below, but can't assign them all if the account is in an SVM <if I understand correctly>. Anyone have an insight into this?

clone Oracle database on VM guest with Snapcenter 4

I am evaluating using Snapcenter 4 for the Oracle db cloning. Oracle is on a VMware linux guest with VMDKs on the datastores hosted on a FAS3000 via FCoE.

For the Snapcenter host I need the Plug-in for Oracle Database. Do I need the Plug-in for VMware vSphere since the Oracle guest is a VM or any other additional plug-in?

We have 2 separate vSphere systems connecting to one AFF-A300 Netapp storage. Both vSphere Vcenter Appliances have an individual Netapp VSC Appliance, and both are creating backups on a scheduled basis.

However, One of the vSphere Snapcenter Plugins is giving the error "No backups available at this time." and will not display the backups to restore from!

I have tried the following, and re registered the SCV plugin. But still get the same error

Anyone tried to restore a MongoDB database in a VMware environment from SnapCenter, using the MongoDB Plugin?

We have a Sharded Replicaset cluster running in Vmware. The snapshots through the MongoDB Plugin are working fine. The issue is doing the restore through the SnapCenter Plugin and we're not sure how this will work with the layers Volume>Snapshot>LUN>Datastore>VM disks.

Or should we explore at doing the restore manually, from the Ontap CLI, unmount the filesystem and snapshot restore?

Anyone else in the same configuration that can share?

Can we get NetApp Snapdrive agents for HP-UX from NetApp..?

After changing some configurations to backup also the Log Area we got this error:

A few questions may make our work easier.

1. if we take snapshots on VMs through the SnapCenter, will the snapshots be stored on NetApp volumes or VMWare datastores?

2. we plan to use VM snapshots to replace NDMP backups, since we have big amount of VMs, is that a good idea to schedule snapshot policies on datastores instead of on VMs? will the snapshot process takes longer if we do so? which way is the better choice?

3. we currently using Veritas NetBackup to back up VMs by using NDMP, sometime the snapshot causes issue on VMs, snapshot take too long or not delete correctly. is that possible we can direct the snapshot from datastore to volume? or any other ways to improve the process?

SnapCenter plugin migration to new vCenter

We're running vCenter 6.7 U3 and are migrating to vCenter 7.0. Both are appliances, fresh install of 7.0, no Windows at all. We're running SnapCenter 4.4 with the databrokers. One databroker per vCenter. Is it just a matter of pointing to the new vCenter in the databroker webpage? <https://ipaddress:8080>

I can't seem to find the instructions for that scenario.

Migrate an snapvault destination aggr to a new controller ?

The customer has a old filer, with snapvault destination volumes and aggrs inside that.They bought a new controller with new disks.We will ,first configure the new filer for future snapvault destinatinon.Then they want us to connect the old filers shelves to the new controller.

My question is about the snapvault volumes, they have been in place for the last 5 years, and lots of data inside them.

If we connect the old shelves to new filer, and assign the disks to this new filer, do we have the old structure of aggrs and volumes with snapshots?.Or do we loose snapshots or something else,

In my opinion, all the aggr, volume and snapshots must retain ,but i havent tried something like that.

what is your opinion?

Exchange KB5001779 breaks SnapManager for Exchange

I have a few older servers still using SnapManager rather than SnapCenter, and the critical security update that Microsoft released a few days ago (KB5001779) completely breaks SnapManager compatibility - backup jobs no longer run, and console reports "Unable to determine Exchange virtual server group status before SnapManager operation" straight upon opening. This is happening both in Exchange 2013 and Exchange 2019, same error. I have opened a case with support, but while I'm waiting for a response, has anyone else run into this, and is there a workaround?

SnapCenter Remote Offline Verification of MS SQL AOAG database members

Hi there

Looking for some help with the Verification of MS SQL AOAG database members. I have a simple AOAG setup across 2 SQL Servers for DB1.

I want to offload CheckDB to an offline server on a remote site so the assigned policy Schedule snapmirrors the data and log volumes etc. to the second site and the remote serve is selected as the verification server.

What I am seeing is that the Database from the Primary node always fails verification as an NTFS storage snapshot cannot be created, the other database from the secondary node is completed ok on the same server. I have proven this by failing over the AOAG and re-running the Snapcenter Job., with the primary always failing.

The fix seems to be to specify the Tablock option on the verification tab of the SnapCenter Policy. This allows both the Primary and Secondary Database files to complete Checkdb on the remote server successfully.

I have also found that if I clone the primary DB and mount on a remote server that I can execute CheckDB from SQL manually with no issues.

Therefore, can anyone confirm if this issue with checking a Primary AOAG Database is to be expected and that Tablock should always be specified for an AOAG database when verify remotely?

Or suggest if I am missing something in my setup. Note file/folder permissions have all been checked and verified, and SQL servers are same version etc

Finally does anyone know what snapcenter skips (other than the NTFS snapshot) when the Tablock option is selected?

Snapcenter datastore jobs are slow

I have snapcenter 4.3. 2 ,Plug-in for vspere virtual appliance 4.2 ,vcenter 6.7

I see today that the job where 4 datastore were backuped need 30 minutes that is finish.

is this normal? snapshot of datastore is finish in few second when i look at netapp volumes.

I was thinking the job is finish in max 10 minutes. but i check the logs all job are so slow.

We deployed SnapCenter solution in our environment and lately, security scan has alerted that Windows machines host files has been modified. I've checked them and I can see that vservers management LIFs are added there. For me it's clear that SC plugin for Windows done that change - but can someone confirm if this is normal behavior and also observed such thing?

SnapCenter Snapshot - inconsistent snapshots

All the snaps taken with snapcenter is showing consistent: false

Is this correct?

I can attach, clone etc with these snapshots. No errors or warnings in snapcenter. Backup job completed successful. Doesn't matter if its windows file system backup (consistent snapshot is selected) or sql db backup all shows "Consistent: false" on netapp

Our environment: vmware 6.5, snapcenter 4.4

All the luns are connected to the guest os using iscsi. DB etc are not stored on vmdk/datastore. SnapCenter Plugin for VMware vSphere is not installed as its required for us - but shouldn't matter as the databse, luns etc are not vmdk or rdm

Convert policy snapmirror from MirrorAndVault to MirrorAllSnapshot

I wish to copy all snapshot from the source volume to the destination volume. First, the snapmirror relation was the policy MirrorAndVault. So I convert the snapmirror relation to policy MirrorAllSnapshot but the all snapshots is not copied on the destination.

Are they a solution to make this ?

No option to commit changes to NTP in System Configuration Menu NetApp DatBroker

Option 5 gives the option to change NTP IP Address/FQDN with comma separated values. You can input these values and get a message that says that it was changed successfully and to press ENTER to continue. Once you do that and select "x" to EXIT a message pops up saying you have changes that have not been committed and if you're sure you want to exit with a y/n prompt but none of the 9 options on the system configuration page offers to commit the changes. There is nowhere I can even find out what my NTP is currently set to.

Mailbox recovery wiht SMR Problem

Hi i have Exchange 2016, snapcenter 4.3, vcentern 6.7,Storage is NetApp.

I want to recovery one Mailbox that i can restore the contacts.

I know the Mailbox Name and the Database. I start Single Mailbox Recovery, I can connect to Server i See the Database and also the Snapshot, but when i choice the snapshoot and want to mount it. the Windows with mount process is after 10 minutes not finish. When i go directly to NetApp i see volume that a clone is mounted.

Im really dissapointed About this snapcenter.

is there a possibility that i restore Mailbox without single Mailbox recovery? or that i mount the snapshoot manually add clone to Server and then only Import to single Mailbox recovery i sow this one time but now i cannot remmeber.

SnapCenter restore from the SnapVault secondary

Setting as below:

- primary filer 9.5, DR site secondary filer 9.5 with SnapVault protection without schedule

- WIN1 (Windows 2012) iSCSI access primary filer LUN only

- SnapCenter 4.3.1P2 backup host WIN1 and update SnapVault after creating a local Snapshot copy without problem

Restore from Local copies Snapshot no problem, but when select Secondary Vault Backup and restore, restore failed with "Failed to mount the Snapshot copy from the SnapVault secondary".

SnapCenter deferred SQL Verification Jobs

Snapcenter Version 4.3.1P2

MS SQL 2016 on Server2016

I have been trying to schedule a deferred verification on an SQL resource group. The group has 3 policies attached

1: A logs only back up runs every 30mins on the 15th and 45th Min

2: A full back up with logs and no verify runs every 2 hours on the odd hours 1,3,5 etc

3: A full backup with logs with remote verify runs every 6 hours on the 00, 06, 12, 18

In the Gui I have set the verification schedule to every 6 hours on the 01, 07,13,19

Once setup I can see all the backup jobs in the scheduler screen and 1 to 3 run on time, but as expected 3 does not execute the verify. When the time for the verify comes nothing happens, there are no jobs started and after 1-2 mins the schedule changes to the next run time in 6 hours with no errors that I can find in any of the logs etc.

I have tried setting the verify schedule to the same times as policy 3 i.e 00, 06 etc and have the same outcome, backup runs but no verify is undertaken.

if i invoke a manual backup using policy 3 and select verify it works fine.

if I alter the verification options to remove the schedule and use the run after backup option , i.e no deferred schedule then the backup runs and the verification is undertaken.

Have I misunderstood the verification schedule purpose?

if so can someone explain where I am going wrong please?

Also what is the deferred backup number in the verification schedule meant to do, I have it set to 1, the documentation is unclear so a little light on its purpose would also help

I have to do some Commvault configuration work for a NetApp CIFS setup. I was reviewing the Lab On Demand for Commvault, specifically the difference between Snap Backup and normal backup. While I see that the Snap Backup is quicker and efficient. The Snapshot backup is on the primary NetApp. If I lose that snapshot, I cant restore from it? Plus I don't want to retain many backup copies on the Primary as it's not classed as the backup NetApp. If I use the normal backup process, I know it takes longer but the data is at my backup location.

Therefore, would I use a Backup Copy job to copy the Intellisnap created snapshot to my backup location?

1. If the write_suspend command fails when executing the script, the snapshot is not created, and there is no setting to repeat the task for a certain time. 2. To complete the task, you must specify the username and password of the user who is the owner of the instance. There is no possibility to run through SUDO as another user. To my opinion, it's stupid that these originally "hidden" settings need to be added in some JSON-file...
But why does netapp not explain what these settings mean?... who can explain these settings?
We use snapvault for updating the secondary... This should mean we only have to add the first variables? althought NetApp used snapmirror/snapvault mixed together...

SnapDrive Transport Protocol Password Change

I am resetting all local NetApp cluster passwords to upgrade the hash from MD5 to SHA512 and I am down to my last one - the local service account used by SnapDrive for the Transport Protocol Settings. We only have SnapDrive running on Windows Failover Clusters, and only for LUN management (due to a SnapCenter bug I'm awaiting a fix on). We use SnapCenter on all systems, including the ones with SnapDrive, for backups.

Within this context, is there any risk to changing the password for the service account used in the Transport Protocol Settings dialog box, and then going one system at a time to update the new password in the dialog box? I don't want to get in a situation where (a) SnapDrive tries to connect and it affects LUN functionality, and/or (b) SnapDrive tries to connect from systems I haven't updated the password for yet, and it locks out the service account.

Any recommendations?

MS SQL AOAG Snaps - why is the MasterDB included automatically?

Testing the use of Snapcenter to snap a Microsoft AOAG Database and mirror to a second site. I noticed when setting this up that SnapCenter always includes the MasterDB volume in the mirror'ed volumes on verification page when a secondary site server is used for verification even though the MasterDB was not selected for backup on the Resources page.

can anyone shed light on why it does this?

Question #3 The two nodes of the windows clusters are in 2 different datacenter locations and each windows nodes has two different IPs in two different subnets . We are currently backing up Microsoft SQL databases with Veritas enterprise NetBackup with SQL agent from production server. Since it is big (2~10TB), we are considering to back it up from NetApp snapshot, we will use SnapCenter to take a snapshot and mount it on a separated host, then back it up with Veritas. WFA will need to be involved in this case.

If you are doing the same, please share your experience with any advantage and disadvantage. thanks

using Snapcenter in a segregated network

For security reasons we have a segregated network, with Snapcenter and the storage controllers in Zone A and the host servers in zones B C and D.

Each Zone has its own SVM to support the hosts and is providing storage over iscsi to the hosts. To allow snapcenter to manage the SVMs the SVMs for Zones B C and D have 2 management IPs on separate lifs and Vlans. e.g IP 1 192.x.x. and IP2 10.x.x.x

issue arises when trying to implement snapcenter and adding SVMS to Snapcenter that it can resolve and that the hosts can access.

So far using Snapcenter 4.4 i have tried

1: Adding the SVM with the local IP and the Host zone IP as preferred. Error Snapcenter cannot access preferred IP so will not add host

2: Adding the SVM with the Host Zone IP, Error snapcenter cannot access the preferred IP

3: Adding the SVM via a DNS name locally resolvable to Snapcentre local management IP - error when host enumerates storage as gets storage controller SVM details from Snapcenter and selects incorrect IP for management

4: Adding the SVM via a full FQDN, resolvable locally and in the host zone to the relevant IPs - error as 3 host plugin does not appear to do a local dns lookup and gets the storage controller details from snapcenter and selects the incorrect IP for management

when enumerating the storage on the host the logs show the correct IP for the host zone is listed second but as no preference IP is set it chooses the first, and fails to connect.

It seems the preferred IP option was created to overcome the problems above, but assumes that the Snapcenter server can access all areas! not ideal in a secure segregated environment.

Can anyone advise how I can may be able to workaround or solve this e.g. reorder the management IPs on the SVM so that the host selects the correct IP, or how I can set the preferred Ip without the snapcenter server then trying to connect to that IP and the throwing an error.

if any one from netapp is looking can we please consider a change so that the SVM IP for each host is defined when adding the host rather then letting it discover this for itself - as this would solve the problem also and allow for segregated networks where Snapcenter does not require god like access.

any other suggestion or approach welcome as running out of road

Slow cloning in Snapcenter due to disk scanning

Using Snapcenter with the Oracle plugin and 19c databases. We find the cloning process very slow. On average the disk scanning phase takes 3 mins! On SMO this took less than 1 min. We are using Oracle ASM. Where might i look to see why this scanning is so slow?

I already made a google research and found that I need to extend the storage time to 180s for a large env (instead of 60s) as described in this kb https://kb.netapp.com/Advice_and_Troubleshooting/Data_Protection_and_Security/SnapCenter/Unable_to_discover_resources_on_SCV%3A_Failed_to_determine_LUN_based_on_Serial_Number

Unfortunately, it still fails after 60s.

The backup job succeeds if I remove half of the datastores but we want to protect them all right ?😉

Any idea ?

If I turn off VM snapshot in the policy, the snapmirror update is initiated and snapmirror update is shown in the job summary. A bug?

SnapCenter 4.3.1 P2 MySQL plugin on mariadb 5.5.65 - credentials not being passed

We are using the mysql plugin on snapcenter 4.3.1 P2. The plugin auto creates the mysql instance resource. But when we try to configure the credentials for the resource we get the error that "No username password " during the quiesce phase of backup.

Credential prep: local unix account created on target, same account created with full privileges on all databases, such that mysql -u <user> -p gains access to mariadb database. The local account is given passwordless sudo (just to make it easy).

SnapCenter credentials created as linux credential.

mariadb "SELECT @@datadir;" is /var/lib/mysql and is a NFS mount

The documentation for the mysql plugin states that there really isn't too much tinkering with the plugin arguments, certainly are any credential arguments listed or documented. I started to suspect that MySQL and mariadb have diverged sufficiently to break it?

Snapcenter vs SMO Feature Parity Issues

We have been evaluating SC 4.4 as we need to move away from SMO for Oracle 19c support. We are finding a lot of limitation on the SC UI around admin aspects that were easy in SMO. Some examples:

Clone hierarchy not present in SC
UI does not show a list of backups for all resources
Backup to clone hierarchy would be better suited to a tree view
Backups/Clones cannot have an arbitrary name specified at creation
Limited tagging of entities to add metadat for admins/dev teams
Some panes show loading when creating clones etc. UI should be more responsive
In SMO we could provide a simply XML file that contyained all the SGA setup etc. for a clone. Nothing in SC UI for this. Need to do it manually each time.

Perhaps I am not using the product as it is intended but these have proved very frustrating.

I know that Switching from a SnapCenter standalone installation to an NLB installation or vice versa and switching from a MySQL standalone setup to MySQL HA are not supported but i've a question :

is it possible to create a new fresh NLB environment with 2 nodes ( different location ) and than restore the Reposiroty from previous standalone snapcenter server ? Maybe we also need to keep hostname and IP to use as NLB Virtual IP ?

I have been evaluating SnapCentre and the Oracle Plugin (Linux). One thing that strikes me as missing is any kind of visualization of the clone hierarchy like we had in SMO. I'm finding it very difficult to track the clones back to the actual snapshots. This was all visualized in SMO.

Following the process described in "How to Configure NLB and ARR with SnapCenter" (https://kb.netapp.com/Advice_and_Troubleshooting/Data_Protection_and_Security/SnapCenter/How_to_configure_NLB_and_ARR_with_SnapCenter) and it work fine with version 4.3.

With version 4.4 the command Enable-smrepositoryhaconfig returns the error message "failed to execute the sql command to set the master configuration the user or password is incorrect"

Running the command Enable-smrepositoryhaconfig subsiquently returns "MySQL High Avaliability is already configured"

Running the next command in the process "set-smrepositoryconfigurationsettings.." return message "username or password not supplied.

The 2 nodes are Windows 2016 in workgroup and on the same subnet.

SnapCenter MSSQL backups fail intermittently

Two Windows Server 2016 virtual machines running on top of ESXi 6.7 in a Microsoft cluster. ONTAP 9.7P8. Servers are using in-guest iSCSI initiators to mount a number of LUNs as CSV disks. SQL Server 2017 is installed as a failover cluster (not AlwaysOn groups) on these CSV disks. SnapCenter 4.4 is managing both VMs with plug-ins for Windows and MSSQL. SnapCenter for VSphere plug-in virtual appliance is installed and configured, but not linked to the SnapCenter server itself, so the C: drive VMDKs are not managed by SnapCenter. Policies and schedules are configured to back up the databases residing in the CSV disks.

Problem: about half the time backup jobs are executed, both full and log backups, they fail with an error message "Unable to find any healthy resource on NetApp storage".

This has started when this Windows/SQL cluster was deployed several months ago to replace a previous Windows Server 2008 R2/SQL 2012 cluster that was using clustered LUNs (not CSVs) and SnapManager rather than SnapCenter, and was not exhibiting this behavior. At the time, SnapCenter was running version 4.3.1P2, and the filer was running ONTAP 9.4P5. Since then, the filer has been replaced by a new AFF A220 (new cluster, new LUNs, data was moved by SQL backup/restore), and SnapCenter has been upgraded to version 4.4, but the problem persists. There is another SQL server in the same environment using the same settings except that it isn't clustered, so I suspect that the root of the problem is somewhere in the cluster settings, but I can't figure out what it is. Moving the instance between cluster nodes does not help with the problem. I tried digging through SMCore and plug-in logs but couldn't find anything pertinent.

Snapdrive for Oracle Split off Cloned Database

Using Snapcentre for Oracle 3.4.1 P4 on Windows 2008 R2 (don't ask why! 🙂 ). Obviously SMO works by creating flex-clones in the underlying storage then presenting back to the OS as a new instance of oracle. It was indicated to me though that these clones of the DB could not be split out into a new standalone DB like you would when you split a flexclone off from it's parent.

Is that the case or can SMO clones be split?

Attempting to install the snapcenter for Microsoft Windows and the Exchange plug in, the push install gives me the following errors:

1. The minimum .NET framework version required on the host is v4.5.2. Install or upgrade the .NET framework on server.company.com and restart the host.

2. Checking for Blocked Firewall Ports failed on host server.company.com .Exception: The network path was not found.

3. The required PowerShell version 4.0 is not available on server.company.com . Install or upgrade the PowerShell to 4.0 and restart the host.

The HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Net Framework Setup\NDP\v4\full\1033 key says that it is release 528049 (which is 4.8.2)

The $PSVersion table shows that I have powershell 4.0

Attempting a silent install from the client fails and the install never writes to the log files specified in the install string.

Is it possible/support to change the logon web page so I could include the server name or the like to create a more 'instance specific' feel? I'd imagine I can hack around this but likely any upgrade will revert any changes I make. Wondering if there is a customization folder or the like to implement custom CSS etc.

2. in case the data corrupted in destination vol, are we still able to restore data from snapvault copies?

3. if we keep snapvault for years and data changes big and often, will the destination vol need a lot of space to keep snapshot copies?

4. I assume normally snapvault copies will only be kept on destination, if big size vol restore will be needed, will it take too much time to recover?

5. we plan to make tape copy on source site, is that a good idea compare to destination since it is away from production site?

This PDF says that there is the option to use StorageGrid or Ceph S3 with fabric Pool (Blue box on page 18),

hence my assumption that it does not need a StorageGrid to user fabric pool with Ceph S3 Storage.

We're doing hardware snapshots with Commvault Intellisnap on a volume which is as well replicated with NetApp snapmirror.

Sometimes and in a randomly way, we have this issue :

The snapmirror replication starts at 8PM.

Hardware snapshots with Commvault at 10PM and backup copy (hardware snapshot mounted) at 11PM.

It appears that sometimes, snapmirror replication are still running when hardware snapshots happen. Could it be the the origine of that issue or is it something else ? I don't get that since snapshots vserverdr (snapmirror) and hardware snapshot (Commvault) are not deleted immediately. Snapmirror snapshot only after the next update and Commvault snapshot after the 10th one, we keep 10 snapshots on the source.

As it is two differents snapshots, for me, it's not the origine of the problem, but maybe someone of you has already seen that before ? Does snapmirror replication and hardware snapshots can run in the same time ? Just a bug ? Thanks for all your replies. NetApp storage in ONTAP 9.1P5.

Unable to Break SVM Peer Relationship

Hello,

There is an issue where we are unable to remove an SVM peer relationship so we can destroy the SVM.

The SVM is peered:

praesdc1 praesdc2 peered dc2-tier1-cluster1

snapmirror praesdc2

When trying to delete the peer relationship we get the following error "Error: command failed: Relationship is in use by SnapMirror iocal cluster. Use the "Snapmirror list-destinations" command to view the relationship"

Checking we do not see a Snapmirror relationship. I have been advised that the volumes were deleted before the relationship was broken.

Is there any way be can break the peer relationship when we dont see a Snapmirror relationship

I checked and found that 8.3> smtape could be used only to backup to a tape and not usb. Is it possible to copy the data to an usb/external disk drive using an alternate method from FAS systems? The system is used solely as NAS

One thought is mount the volume on host and leverage the host side capability. Any view/suggestions would be appreciated.

Problem pushing out SnapCenter

I had an issue with backups suddenly failing stating that a job was already running, even though it had cancelled.

I removed the plugins and the Host and then tried to redeploy, but it keeps failing. The error in the install log is:

SnapCenter 4.1 to 4.3 Upgrade - do they co-exist

Planning a snapcenter 4.1 to 4.3 upgrade and want to confirm that once we deploy the data broker appliance for 4.3 and connect to vcenter that all the jobs etc will still remain active and running on the 4.1 device that is already connected the vcenter until we migrate them over via the Powershell command

Related to this when deploying 4.3 data broker will we end up with two snapcenter plugins in vcenter until we decommission the 4.1 server

Snapcenter cannot add hosts behind NAT

Trying to add hosts that are behind a NAT IP translation and on an untrusted domain to snapcenter. after much digging it looks like the process uses WMI calls and the underlying DCOM to enumerate the host and then cannot access the host when it returns info with a local rather than Nat'd IP. error returned in logs is

The object Exporter specified was not found (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070776)

Connection failed. Error: failed to find host (xx.xx.xx.xx) ...

Note on the target host I can see the server has called the plug-ins and retrieved the information required so we know comms paths are in place, but something in the process is stopping the add host completing.

I get the same results from the GUI and PS Add-SMHost commandlet.

Can you please confirm if Snapcenter has been tested and can support the use of plug-in hosts behind a NAT firewall?

Snapcentre intermitant SQL backup fails

Since we installed and configured SnapCenter server (including host SQL Plugins) and the corresponding DataBroker we have intermittently had issues where we have had batches of hourly SQL backups that would fail. Due to all other hourlies working and other workloads we have not raised this as it was not completely failing and assumed the first thing to try would be upgrading to the latest versions. Over the past week we have had more time to take a look and planned in an upgrade of both SnapCenter to v4.3.2 (including all host Windows\SQL Plugins) and the DataBroker to the newly named SnapCenter Plug-in v4.3.1 for VMware vSphere so we should now be on the latest versions of both components. This work was completed on Sunday around 8pm but since this time we have seen the same issues since the upgrade.

I'm running SnapCenter 4.3.1 with MySQL plugin 2.0. Setting up two servers, both CentOS 7.8 with MySQL CE 8.0 set to store their data in a folder mounted off a filer using NFSv4. One is working, but the other is throwing me this error when I try to unlock the instance:

Failed - SCC-00175: Auto Complete Discovery for plug-in [MySQL] failed with error [ Fatal error: Failed to authenticate all MySQL instances. '] and exit code [1]. Exiting.

How to restore with Flexclone in Oracle DB

Customer is currently running Oracle DB on 3PAR. They take snapshot to the DB data and then write the archive log into the Snapshot to make sure Snapshot is ok. After writing DB +archive log, it will be mirror to DR site.

In NetApp A800 case, as Snapshot is read-only, which means we have to clone to Flexclone in order to make Snapshot writable. However question is how to restore using Flexclone (as LUN number may change), and does it require to mirror all the data again to DR site after FlexClone is restored?

We propose 2 solutions

1. Treat Archive Log as another volume and Snapshot again (customer doesn't accept to manage 2 volumes)

2. Proof with Oracle documents saying Oracle Begin Backup is not necessary

3. Ways to restore with Flexclone without re-syncing all data to DR

Dear Community,

I would like to back up Caché DB with Snap Creator. I am going to use the following version of Caché -> 2018.1.

For this job there is a plugin to be found via http://mysupport.netapp.com/NOW/download/tools/snapcreator/. It looks like the plug in has been written for Caché version 1. Could it be compatible with 2018.1?

On the other hand I have tried to find TR-3987: Snap Creator Framework Plug-In for InterSystems Caché, but unfortunately without success. Is there a way to receive this document? Are there other TRs I could use regarding this topic.

In case a new plugin is needed could we find a way to provide it and who should be contacted?

Just added a SQL cluster with 3 nodes ( all with same version )

Got this alert just to 1 node :

Supported version of Microsoft SQL Server is not installed on the host. The functionality of the SnapCenter gets blocked if the supported versions are not installed

Backups are running fine ( snapmirror-label ok ) but Vault replication failed :

Activity 'Replicating to Secondary' failed with error: Unable to find SnapMirror destination(s). Error: No SnapMirror relationships were found.

SnapCenter Server Version : 4.3.1 P2

SQL Version : SQLserver 2014 ( 12.0.6372.1 same version on all nodes )
