Hello,

I am reading through the documentation for SnapDrive 6.3 and it does not list Windows 2008 R2 as a supported guest OS in VMware:

http://now.netapp.com/NOW/download/software/snapdrive_win/6.3/ and scroll down the the "The following table lists the requirements for running SnapDrive in the VMware ESX guest OS." section

Windows guest OS

Windows Server 2003 SP2 or Windows Server 2008 (x86 or x64) with the hotfixes specified in the SnapDrive host requirements

.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or later

It lists Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 but not Windows 2008 R2. Is this just a misprint? Or is this indeed that case that SnapDrive does not yet support Windows 2008 R2 running on VMware? If not supported, does anyone know when SnapDrive will support it? We have SharePoint 2010 servers running in VMware that we want to backup with "SnapManager 6.0 for Microsoft SharePoint", which I believe requires SnapDrive to be installed first.

Thanks

Nelson

Yes, SDW 6.3 running on Win 2008 R2 in a VMWare guest is supported.

The best place to verify this is the Interoperability Matrix Tool (IMT) located at the following URL: ( http://now.netapp.com/matrix/mtx/login.do )

The release notes do not explicitly call out the R2 version of Windows 2008 but the IMT should provide what you need.

Question for you. Did you get it working in VMWare and if so how did you configure your LUNs? Through integration with VMWare or ISCSI direct to storage? Netapp Snapmanager for Sharepoint pre sales peep suggested we use the older version a while back and use ISCSI from within the VMWare guest straight to the storage but I would like to use the new stuff if I can and do FCP on VMFS.

Thanks!
