Upgrade to Clustered ONTAP 8.3 on FAS8040 out of the box?

I just racked my FAS8040 and it shipped with 8.2.2P1. I will be performing a head swap from a V3240. I would like to upgrade to ONTAP version to 8.3P1 on the FAS8040 before I do anything. No cabling has been done (this includes no disk shelves yet). I've only connected to the serial port directly. All the documents I have found are for units already in service. Any thoughts?

Not sure I understand the question. You connect new controller and install it. Why do you need to bother with old controllers that you are going to replace right away?

He wants to upgrade his new FAS8040, NOT the old V3240.
