Folder size count alternative to NFS (du) & Windows Explorer

Does anyone know of an alternative way to track folder sizes of a volume subdirectory? (not qtree)

Usually going over the CIFS (windows explorer properties) or NFS (du -h -s) will surely give me the answer, the problem is tho with a volume with lots of small files this can take very long. Fo example volumes +100 mill inodes +5-6TB it can be very frustrating to count file/folder sizes below the level of volumes & qtree's.

I've found that when I'm using ndmpcopy this does calculate it faster (Maybe just imagination?) Unfortunately it's not possible to ndmpcopy into null device (at least not stating it in the man) so I'm not really using it. Anyone knows of any other "tricks" maybe?

In the Filerview you can see count number of files in the volume options.

I'm not talking about volumes tho, I'm talking about subdirectories.
