Aborzenkov, thanks I had a feeling that maybe the case but could find no documentation to prove it.

thanks Rob

Hi, does anyone know the best practise when creating a LUN in a Volume with no snapshotting: in terms of freespace?

We are using thick provisioning - the customer does not want thin provsioning.

i.e. does there have to be a certain % free space overhead between Volume and LUN?

You do not really need reserved space in usual case on volume level, as long as there is enough space in containing aggregate; but monitoring tools may nag you with "volume free space too low" messages.
