&lt;P&gt;The answer to this question depends on what storage protocol you are using. If you have an iSCSI LUN presented, then it would be exactly the same as a local disk. If you're using NFSv3 and you want to prevent local root from deleting a directory on the NetApp NFS server, using krb5+NFSv4 is probably a better choice, otherwise if you just want to prevent users from deleting directories, standard unix ACLs would work too.&lt;/P&gt;
