Recovered error predictive failure alert on disk

While initializing the NetApp cluster, they run clean configuration and setup advanced partitioning. Its running ... running and running after 6 hours even the same message is repeating as below.

Can anyone help what we can do, shall we terminate the process and re-do?

The error means that there are some bad blocks on the disk. Nothing to worry about as disks have some "reserve" blocks that they will use instead.

If ONTAP sees too many of these errors or the disks runs out of alternate blocks the drive will be failed.

I would make sure your disk drive firmware is up to date: https://mysupport.netapp.com/site/downloads/firmware/disk-drive-firmware

Also wouldn't hurt to get shelf firmware. if you update to the most recent ONTAP it will come bundled with the drive firmware as well.

Thanks for all the replies.

We run the "clean configuration and initialize all the disks", out of the disks one of the disks was about to fail and it failed after 7 hours.

Then disk initialization was completed faster. We waited 8 hours to complete the task.
