SnapMirroring an encrypted volume to a non-encrypted system

I need to SnapMirror encrypted volumes to a non-encrypted (2554) system. When I created the SnapMirror relationship(s) I get an error saying the system needs to be encrypted. The 9.8 encryption guide suggests the destination volume can be unencrypted, but how do I achieve this?

yes, it's simply "encryption is not enabled on the destination cluster"
