Hello,

I have an E2824 with no support and I need help accessing it. It has 2 controllers. I can ping the IP of both controllers, but only one responds with "Please wait..." I was not able to console into the E2824. The storage is in a VMware environment. I moved all VM's off of the storage. How can I reset the controllers to gain access?

If you are able to SSH into one of the controllers, you can login to the shell using eos user. The password will be the same admin user password used to login to the UI.

Once logged into the eos shell via shell, you can run samRebooBoards. This command will reboot both controllers at the same time.

Alternatively, you can reset each controller individually from the UI of one of the controllers. This can be done under the hardware section: https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/e-series-santricity/sm-hardware/reset-reboot-controller.html

If SSH port is not blocked from network standpoint, you can enable it on the controller end from the UI: https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/e-series-santricity/sm-hardware/allow-remote-login.html

The alternative would be to use UI to reset each controller (one at a time), or to have a direct serial connection into the responsive controller using the same eos login.

I don't have access to either controller. Can I remove one of the controllers without hurting the SAN or do I need to power off the SAN to reset the controllers and get access to the E2824?

You can try to reset the unresponsive controller using the responsive controller UI. See: https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/e-series-santricity/sm-hardware/reset-reboot-controller.html
