You cannot install SANtricity on Ubuntu. You'll need to install it on RHEL, CentOS, or SLES.

In the docs (Installing and configuring SANtricity Storage Manager) there's a detailed explanation on how to install ./SMIA-LINUXX64* but nothing on how to actually use it.

I installed it on Ubuntu 16, now what?

Despite what the manual says:

* there's no shortcut on my desktop and in target directory

* the SMclient command is not in the path

* I see a bunch of RPMs in target directory. I would prefer to not experiment with RPMs unless I have to

It installs just fine on Ubuntu (no errors).

The docs don't mention anything about Debian-like distros being unsupported. Considering that Debian-like distros comprise half if not more of the Linux user base, a bit more detail than just "Linux" would be better.

@elementx That's fair. If it only says Linux, that's not very specific. It really should state that it's only for rpm-based systems (SuSE, RH, CentOS, etc).

There are probably ways to get it running, but it's definitely not going to be something that's supported even if you can get those rpm's to install on Ubuntu.
