    <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Thank for your fast answer&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Yes sur it's an option&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;but as you know :time is budgetary restriction&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;So if I can avoid this PS option&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I will be happy&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;If anybody on community has some experience&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I've read that a guy simply replace head ,and aggregat converts itself , and he didn't have problem with root volume running OnTap7, after did an upgrade to 8&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;and that's it&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <title>FAS3020 Head swap</title>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt; Hi all&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I 've read a number of article on the subject.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;So sorry to open this new thread, if&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I need to replace an old FAS3020 by a new one FAS3220 &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;and also upgrade to OnTap 8.1.2&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;only the controller will be change, I'm going to keep all my DS14 shelves&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;So we will received a brand new FAS3220 with compaq flash&amp;nbsp; new version 8 and NO disk or shelf&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;FAS3020 is running OnTap 7.3.3&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Aside lun serial, network port ,...... &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Can I just replace FAS3020 by 3220, connect DS14, boot the new FAS3220 &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt; What it will happen with the version difference between Compaq Flash and root volume?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The opinion and advice of&amp;nbsp; somebody who has already done this kind swap will be much appreciated&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Thanks a lot&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Ricco&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;There were reports that booting DOT 8.x on 7.x root volume without proper upgrade procedure resulted in extended outage and had to be fixed by NetApp support.       <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt; Hi Klemen&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Yes we did the swap&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Here are the steps followed:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Update FAS3020 to the last DOT 7.3.7P1&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;disable HA (cf disable)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;check root volume to be at least 250GB &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;make a note of&amp;nbsp; rc and hosts file&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;check is disk owner ship for FAS3020 is hardware or software&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;If it's hardware, boot FAS3020 into maintenance mode and convert to software disk ownership with disk upgrade_ownership command&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;replace FAS3020 with brand new FAS32xx&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Boot FAS32xx to maintenance mode and reassign disk to the controller (command disk reassign -s old-systemID -d new-systemID&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; Then type the following commands if you replace HA Pair (storage release disks , mailbox destroy local, mailbox destroy partner)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Check that aggregate are ok (aggr status)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Then exit maintenant mode (halt)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;boot FAS32xx &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;During the first boot, raid label are update + some message on aggregate &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;When FAS32xx is load, you do an upgrade to refresh root volume with DOT8 ( software update 81xxx.tgz)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Same work on the second FAS32xx&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Boot both controller&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Make some verification/test&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Modify rc file and replace vif command by ifgrp&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;put FAS32xx license you should have received with you new FAS&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;And finally&amp;nbsp; enable cluster (cf enable)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Before head swap we also made a note of lun serial in case&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;But serial numbers have not been modified by the swap&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Also check if you Brocade switch zone configuration doesn't need update with new WWPN&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Regards&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
